it seems groomers try to force themselves as somehow :supper duper speshul: vs the other big fans, while of course they're not at all different, just a fan given clout. to this end they try to force an insiders us vs them with the top mods/groomers vs the rest of the random ordinary fans not given special status.

really though what we can see as trends are that
a.) groomers target a girl early, they get in early as being among her first fans
b.) they play the long game, for years if need be but actually had this intention from the start
c.) they try to eliminate the competition aka all the other fans in the girls' mind which makes her turn against everyone else

girls who fall for this tend to be naive or lacking the emotional intellect and perception to notice what's going on, and it costs them fucking dearly eventually.

I can see understand coming to that conclusion for sure, but ultimately virtual youtubing has transformed into a whole different beast altogether in the end. A lot of the usual conventions have flipped. There's a lot of reasons for it; I personally could probably spend a good block of time rattling off key events and influences which built the current culture into what it is today, but 1) I've spent so much time banging my head against a wall in this thread already that I'm getting to the point where I don't care enough to and 2) I have been here a long ass time and have a great memory for what events shifted the culture towards my preferences(I am probably one of the oldest OG unicorns active enough to argue on this godforsaken hellhole), but I'm not so pompous as to think that my perspective would be infallible as opposed to my best attempt at compiling events that I consider corollary to eventual development of the current state of affairs.
I would simply say that it is best to consider the social conditions of the vtubing sphere to be its own beast. There are definitely events outside of vtubing that interplay with it, but without a firm grasp of the context of that interplay, it's very easy to misunderstand what their influence was.
I know that this might end up sounding a lot like "vtubing is a speshul snowflake ok!?", but it's less that vtubing itself is unique, and more that the circumstances it developed in were special. After all, remember that the v-tubing boom effectively co-occurred with the COVID lockdowns. Surely you can imagine that an explosive industry under those conditions could end up mutating into something that is unique in comparison to the stuff you compared it to.
