ok, before anything else, watch these if you want real advice from people who knows what are they really talking about:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9idPREZzWpE about OBS in general.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsijqvrNEtQ about Chat, vital thing to have.
and https://olmewe.itch.io/veadotube-mini the part of the description that basically tells you how to set this thing up.
After these, programs we will use: Obviously we are going in this guide with OBS, no experience with anything else. Get it from the official page, it is free and easy to "install" --- And, we are going with Veadotube, if it is a first stream to see and test the experience there is no need to really go full throttle if you are just experiencing how it is for you.
the first thing you need to do is open Veado, choose ogato as the base, scrap everything but the first state, and in that one change the closed mouth and open mouth images to your preference ones, remember to make on with the mouth open and one with it closed as the name indicates. After that, remember to save the the file and, if you want to not get confused, give it a good name instead of living it as just ogato. With that you already have the avatar for streaming.
Now, before moving to OBS itself, know that you will always need to have veadotube ready for when you stream, as it is part of the scenes that will be captured, probably some more details later, but know that in case of your pc being so low specs that it goes overdrive just trying to run veado itself.
Onto OBS itself, you will fist need to find the fist and most "useful" tool it has, studio mode, click on it and set the overlays the way you want, then we go to the settings part before scenes and whatnot:
On general:,there shouldn't be anything to change.
On service, use Twitch, server Auto, and put your stream key in the empty field, you can connect your account, but that might harder and i didnt even try that option.
On output: first and foremost advanced mode, we are only going to talk about streaming window: audio track, twitch vod, and video/audio encoder no changes, No need to reescalate so no change there. On rate no change, on bitrate set it at least to 2000, target usage balanced, profile main, keyframe interval 0, latency normal, b frames 3.
On audio: Sample rate 48Khz, Channels stereo, desktop audio default, desktop audio 2 disabled, microphone choose the one you will use and no others, decay rate fast, peak meter type sample peak, monitoring device default and disabled windows audio ducking.
On video: Your screen resolution on both should be fine, or output on 1024x 576 for 480p quality if you want to not have 1080p60fps by default and kill the pc, downscale area type, and common fps 30 unless you go for 720p+.
on hotkeys: at the very least assign one to mute microphone, it needs to go both on mute and unmute.
Nothing on accessibility nor advanced.
With that we have the settings covered, I do not know how much it will take me to write on the scenes and similar tho, so shit...
-
Now, onto getting something to stream with, create a new scene > add the source of veado and make it transparent, add the game you want to play as another souce, make sure to have the veado source higher than the game source itself, and you are ready to go.
Now, to add some extra things: you can, as i citated up, have the alerts and the chat stuff all ready, they are the same as before, source and over whatever else there is on the scene so that it is visible. as well as the possibility of adding some filters and whatnot to the microphone, but all of that is advanced stuff, nothing else to say.

Stupid question, but how do you auto-mute/unmute certain audio sources in OBS when you switch scenes? For example, if I wanted my starting/intro scene to have my mic muted, then when I switch to the game, it auto-unmutes my mic, is that possible?

If joining a public voice chat channel and you've set your mic to be muted, you can rest easy, but if you join a private call that shit is going to auto unmute your mic (so your best bet is to set your mic push-to-talk and don't have it bound to anything). Discord is TRASH
