It's not really a strange thing to a lot of people I think. I think a lot of us have friends that just go for ages where we don't talk for awhile, especially as we get older and busier. Happens a lot with family too. If you have siblings you used to see all the time, you'll see them less when they get married and have kids. Same thing with friends. It's definitely way different from how it was when I was still in school like, damn, I dunno, 15 years ago.
