No one cares about the "character," retard. Like all streamers, it's all about their personalities. Every single person who has an oshi they genuinely love/care about will care about the girl behind the model. Every single time.
Idols in general survive off of this sort of "le parasocial" type relationship between oshi and fan. Hell, streamers in general do. This is how it works in idol culture, so it makes sense it'll carry on into vtubing, which is live with direct and personal interaction.
If you don't want people to care about the girls behind the models, then what you want is for vtubing to go back to the Kizuna AI days with classic let's play style gameplay vids, skits, and absolutely no livestreaming or direct interaction.
