Playing Xenogears can possibly make you a better person.

2 types of people: those who liked Disk 2 and those who didn't. Latter aren't worth mentioning.

Op the games were originally for PC-98, and when you put games from the two systems side by side on CRT they look about the same.

I was liking Shadow Hearts FtNW up until I saw Al Capone all chummy with Elliot Ness. Like WTF? It's true what they say... Nomura ruins everything he touches.

Except some of us are more interested in the circumstances than the obsession with seeing something "new".

I'm playing the SaGa (FFL Wanderswan color) translation by Tower Reversed. It's not much different than the original (guess the original was fairly decent then), though some things could be different in the final stretch.

or not. Seriously there are some good stories for this system. Y'all are missing out.

Intelligent people appreciate the game. Seriously, favoring the game is a sign of higher IQ.

Game would be so much better if it didn't have charge time. So pedantic otherwise.

Here's hoping thread gets more attention come weekend. If it doesn't, I'll let it die.

OSSC really does look nothing like a CRT television, sorry to say. Maybe something like those Sony PVMs nobody actually played on outside of dev studio, but not how the games were made with player experience in mind (PVM was meant for arcade idiots!)

I think the issue is that the translation algorithm isn't tuned for interpersonal communication, and probably doesn't try to distinguish between that and technical writing (it only does technical).

Machine translation is acceptable for things like flavor text and item names. For dialogue it can be spotty

These games have great stories... like 90s anime. I need help to translate them though.

>> No.6024582 [View]

Many of the games are good, tho they could do with some patches for the choppy scrolling.

The storylines aren't bad either.

I don't doubt that a lot of rote learning is required, and yet still some figure it faster than others. If you take a college class with other people then I figure that helps a lot, living in Japan of course very much more. It's passion more than anything... a consuming passion because learning Japanese is itself consuming and at expense of many other things. I figure to both hack and translate one of those games would take around 2 years worth of free time. These things go a lot quicker and get completed much more often when people agree to cooperate to lessen the load of the entire project. Raising $40k or even $20k to get a game like this translated is likely infeasible... the media will report about it and knowing a fan release is pending gets the attention of rights holders who all of a sudden have the opportunity to enter a new market with their product... of course they'd want release at terms. The original designer of Madou Monogatari 123 has been notified a patch is pending and he ain't even got back about it. We learned like a decade ago when scanlators met with industry that there would be no friendly rapproachment... fans must translate without expectation of reward or expect never to see the game in their native language.

Man you can't do shit to me so I got nothing to lose by you. At best I'll make some friends that can think independently.

Japanese itself is not a fantastic language from a writing standpoint. Most Japanese don't even know the kanji, most of them.

>> No.6021381 [View]

The scrolling can be hacked. It's not a big deal.

Also I ain't Retronomicon.

I'm really not good at foreign languages. I studied Spanish in highschool but was never able to excel.

Is it even feasible to fundraise for a translation effort without owning the copyright or having written permission from the holder?
