Also, I should probably explain how it works. You keep tapping the A button rapidly.

Here ya go. It's easier than it looks once you get the hang of doing it.

If you can beat Mega Man and Batman, you can beat Super Mario Bros. Maybe you're just losing your patience too quickly. Have you tried using the extra lives trick on world 3-1?
If you're a purist, and rather not win that way, are you aware of the extra life near the beginning of world 8-2? That usually helps me make it through.
Here. I circled it on this screenshot for you.

World 8 is definitely the toughest part of the game. What's the hardest NES game you guys have beaten?

Which part of the game are you getting stuck on? Is it the Hammer Bros. in world 8-3, by any chance? I find them harder to dodge because they're on flat ground.

Donkey Kong Country 3 was the series entry me and my sister played the most. It's hard to beat all the adventure elements it offers. And I never thought Kiddy Kong was a bad character. I kinda find him cute. Like, seriously. What did he ever do that's so wrong or annoying?

>>3223097
>Was Kaos really that bad?
I thought Kaos was insanely easy. In fact, most of DKC 3 is easy when compared to DKC 2.

Yes! One of the best turn-based tactics games ever made. It shows up on a lot of all-time best game lists for a reason. Final Fantasy Tactics is amazing, and arguably the best game in the whole franchise.
Try it. Worse that can happen is you don't like it.

I read once the sprite of Mario on the cover of SMB was taken from Donkey Kong.
Looking at the cover again now, I'm having trouble seeing it. Maybe it's the different colors on Mario's attire that is throwing me off.

I could beat Contra without taking any hits, so I tried speed-running it. Could never get the hang of rapid-firing by tapping on the B button, so the end-boss would always mess up my runs.

I'm equally impressed you can beat the boss in stage 4 of Dr. Wily's Fortress, on the hard difficulty, without losing a life. Nice work.

>Maybe you had this impression because of the graphics? They were pretty much the only thing sub par on SMW.
I'm not sure what it was. But a lot of Reagan pagan babies also suffered the same issues when first playing Super Mario World.
SMB 3 had explosive airships and seemed more "in your face" with its action elements. SMW was more polite and focused on exploration.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is an action game with exploration elements, while Super Mario World is an exploration game with action elements.
I was just too young to appreciate SMW for what it was, at the time. But looking back, I now feel that World is the better game, and has aged much better.

I think Super Mario World is gorgeous. What makes you think the graphics are sub-par? Just curious.

Renting video games from the tape store.

Your mom/dad losing their patience as you can't decide on which game to rent.

Super Mario 3 is still checked out.

Do you settle for the copy of Super Mario 2? Or gamble on the latest game to hit the shelves?

Choose wisely. Your whole weekend depends on it.

Funny how I didn't appreciate Super Mario World when it was originally released. I thought it was "lame" and "not cool" compared to Super Mario 3. Was also disappointed in how quickly I was able to defeat Bowser.

But then, several years later, I finally got it. It doesn't offer the same variety of Mario 3, as in say, the number of worlds each with their own different theme. But it does perfect its craft and brilliantly executes what it's meant to be—a precision-based, vivid platformer filled with exploration elements.

>H.E.R.O.
Yes! Missed this gem back in the day only to play it decades later. Was addicted from the moment I started playing. Bombing those walls never gets old.
Have you ever finished the game? I'm curious to know how many stages there are.

It is. Any game released on a platform before 2000 is considered retro. So even though Final Fantasy IX debuted in 2000, it was released on a console from 1994.

Tetris was invented as a play on the word, Tetra. Which means: "Forming compounds having the sense of four."

Tetris Attack indeed has little, if anything, to do with the original concept of Tetris, other than it being a puzzle game involving blocks.

That being said, it's still wildly entertaining and fun to play. And that title screen music.

My all-time favorite vidya game. Been playing it since 1998 and still love it.

>Metroid
Most people like Super Metroid better, but I would argue the original remains the pinnacle of the series. The exploration is brilliant, and the way the game forces you to out-maneuver your enemies is fantastic.

>Super Mario RPG
My childhood defined. I played this game way too much.

>Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers
My grandpa (rest his soul) would rent Chip 'n Dale from the tape store for me. When our local video rental store closed, I managed to buy the exact copy of the game I still own and hold so dear to my heart.

>Kid Icarus
If you don't like Kid Icarus, then git gud. 'Nough said. Game is awesome.

That map looks confusing to navigate with all the different chutes. Very confusing. Seems like it would be difficult to draw out on paper, as well. Is the enemy encounter rate high? Because if so, that Blue Dam dungeon you showed me would probably take a long time to complete.
