Let's start with 16 pages excluding 4 pages for inner and outer cover.

Topics I would like to see:
-Console War: N64 vs PlayStation
>the horsepower of each system, launch games per region, price, pros and cons, innovations
-Appreciation Station: PC Engine
>what made this system so good, what made it so bad, variants
-Evolve: computer graphics through time
>either start with PC, consoles, or handhelds, or all
-Tech: CRT Guide and Cables
>set up diagrams, TV specs, which cables are good for what
-Developer Spotlight: Composers
>bios and gameography of popular and less known composers, recommended game and tracks
-Collection Room: /vr/ physical game collections/systems
>game & watch collections, atarin collections, systems, controllers, memorabilia

That's 6 basic subjects and of course I'm open to suggestion of changes.

If you peeps write the articles, I'll have to do research to verify information. I'll do formatting, layout, and editing. If you have pictures to share that'd be helpful, otherwise I'll aquire that too.

Believe in the zine.

What bs?

It's just funny that when i found the thread I was in the mood to publish something.

If people are still making content or have articles they want to share I'd like to make a mock up.

No idea but the visuals of those early 3D Sega games us something really unique that I feel has been lost.

Also for some effects, spinach would be a super power up which makes you take no damage and let's you deal quad damage. When in spinach mode, the music rhythm should change to your punching. The more you keep to a rhythm, the higher combo and more coins/dollars that will come out of enemies.

When low on health the game would go from color to stratchy black and white film. Huge emphasis on eating different foods and drinks for temporary stat effects and HP.

Secret shops for secret moves.

When playing solo, you can switch between the five main characters instantly.

Each character has their own abilities. Popeye is all around good (think mario), castor is fast (luigi), olive is rubbery and can reach far away or bend/morph into tight spaces, bluto is super strong and can break or lift huge objects, and wimpy is good at finding secrets and working with locks.

If there is a locked door, you can either beat it down or use wimpy. Some doors can't be beat down unless you use spinach (so you waste a spinach for a door or you level up wimpy to unlock it).

This main party of 5 can be switched around with custom or other characters, who all have basically similar abilities as the main cast. That way you can roll a team of big bluto types, all females, all sailors, all kids, clowns, gangsters, farmers, mix and match, etc. But you can only switch when back at home base.

Each of the 5 toons has their own hp. If one gets knocked out they can't be used until revived or the end of an area.

Say you reach a really tough area and everybody but popeye and bluto can't make it to the boss. Then go to HQ and come back with Barbacle Bill, Popeye, Bluto, a giant boxer, and Gorilla to pummel that area.

What happened to that zine project you guys were working on? I saw a thread about it a while back.

Didn't you see Gendy's animation test for the new popeye movie? Literally a scared wimp. I'm glad he got booted from the project.

With that in mind ive had a vision for a new popeye games since the wii. It would be 4 players that can drop in and out anytime, with personal profiles. The main five characters would be Popeye, Castor, olive, bluto, and wimpy. They have their own abilities and perks.

The animation and graphics would be 3D, with bouncy jiggle physics like they use on boobs. Think like mario 64 intro or wario world.

The game starts off as a side scrolling beat me up on the level of kunio kun and then evolves into a fortune street/monopoly style board game where you can buy properties in lots, build stuff like interactive arcades and casinos, and then accumulate income which can be used to make your character stronger, buy clothes, character parts, music, and other stuff.

Basically the board game funds the access to new areas to fight in for the purpose of buying a sailing boat to leave the main board and go off to new islands with themes (tropical, orient, egypt) and make a trading empire (because in the original comic strips popeye and castor were money scheming and adventuring).

A big point about the game would be to be able to unlock nearly every popeye cheater to have ever appeared in the strips and a create a character mode that gives you shapes and pieces to make goofy people to play as or fill your towns/businesses.

-Morpheus, Matrix Movie 19999

Is SMRPG really that great? I never played it but I hear its better than Paper Mario. I'd probably get in on the virtual console since the emulation there is fantastic.

Yeah, just for a bit on PC. Its a little too "stiff" since it tried to be retro and 8-bit and all but its pretty neat.

My nigga. Dreamcast GTA 2 was my favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv6mWA7OQiM

Fuck man, After GTA III or Vice City, GTA went so backwards. Not bad, but just backwards.

Saints Row tried it but it was too "edgy" and over the top that I don't think anyone could take seriously. More like "another GTA" clone.

Bless the stars that Rockstars' dumb ass made Chinatown Wars.

I'm still waiting for someone to expand on the top down formula and make something mind blowing.

Pretty good. Yes, the SNES is more solid with challenges. N64 is more sandbox style.

WiiSports Resort airplane game is a spiritual sequel to PilotWings, and it was later turned into PilotWings Resort for 3DS. Not as good as the first two, or as charming, but its very calming game.

Cranky Kong from Donkey Kong Country is actually the original Donkey Kong from the arcade and NES games. Meaning Donkey Kong Country is being played by DK Junior and his pal P-Diddy Kong. The P stands for Prower like the character from Sonic the Hedgehog Adventures on Sega Dreamcaster.

Any tips for playing 1v1 and resource management? Is it just "sell a bunch of food and wood for gold"?

I made a post on /v/ a few days ago about this game but nobody took the bait (aka cared).

Konami and Capcom were pretty fantastic when they worked with licenses.

The Simpsons game is one of the most superb examples. It looks accurate and it sounds accurate, and then the gameplay goes to the point where you kind of forget its a licensed game.

I had that feeling with Turtles in Time. It just felt so accurate towards the license.

I kinda agree with OP. Taking into account the era, I don't believe Ninja Gaiden, Contra, or Castlevania would have been sold to kids.

The ESRB and similar ratings boards was one of the worst things to happen in the industry, as it imposed a self-censorship on studios.
