/vr/ - Retro Games

I finished BoFI and started II with a retranslation patch. 4 hours in I'm enjoying it quite, but I can't help but play it x2 speed - except boss battles, regular encounters are so damn slow for me... am I a zommerbrain or do someone else feel like that?
Also pls tell me the rest of the series keeps it up.

Aight, I got SOMA and Talos in library, havent even installed them, I'll try them the next. Already played Stanley Parable, I dont think it's the second coming of Christ but it was quite amusing how it handles narrative, liked it.
I'll take note about Realms, Moonstone and the Vanishing.

In all seriousness, is there a game for the SNES or PSX (the consoles I know I can safely emulate right now), maybe DOS or similar with a slight more "mature" tone than usual?
I like retro games (duh) but I'm not in the greatest mood these days, and I'm a bit tired of the "lets save the world from evil-power of friendship-etc, etc, etc." stuff.
I'm not asking for ultra edgy stuff nor for le deep philosophical games, and I do realize old games were made in a context, for a public.
But... well?

The games this guy draw for were most of them a bit trash, but the covers themselves look mighty fine.

Seenig how there is a ton of patches and possible fixes/upgrades for each game, I think the problem is my fucking CrapBook Pro, and that it might be time to get a real tabletop PC

I have played the first 5 Final Fantasies and read pic related (which I can't stop recommending), scifi and epic fantasy blends if done well because "any advanced enough technology is undistinguishable from magic and blahblahblah"

Won't I be filtered by the old-ass games interface and mechanics? I have messed around with some DOS games in the past without much trouble, but I'm maybe too used to modern interfaces and stuff

I have always been interested in these games and I bought the "whole" pack last sale, from IV to IX.
I'm almost clueless about the saga, and have many questions about it:

Should I start from IV or skip any?
Should I try Ultima Underworld apart, as I heard it is a spinoff of sorts?
How the fuck do I get the music to work properly?
Are guides needed or can I play the blindly without problem?

Ye okay I have read here and there that indeed the only drawback the PSP version has is the meme dialogues, but adds two areas, two familiars, a combat with Maria and the possibility to play as her in a New Game+

Just got OpenEmu and downloaded the required Bios files for Psx (SCPH 5500, etc.)
Download a rom from one of the zillion sites, and presto

Nowadays everyone has his own idea of balance and what is more or less grindy, but back then devs just thought "throw that in to make 'em play for longer, dunno"
Thats why you sometimes you have to grind your soul in one game but then cheese through other, or even the same

I tried the first game on a DOS emulator and I got interested, but it had no voices and other stuff; should I buy it or pirate it? Is it a good buy at its current price (6€) or should I wait for a sale?
Of course I'd get into JA 2, everyobody say it's bigger and better, but how are the reboots and newer sequels?
