Traditionally it's Name: Game without a trip, but hardly necessary. Helps keep track of your run.

Son, that game has an ending.

Oh, hey, it's the game that ended my last run. Have fun with what is arguably the worst game on the TG-16.

What is that in the far upper right of the first map? I don't remember that.

Didn't even notice that stuck pop-up. Oh well.

So, apparently getting all 8 flags is not enough. You have to hand off the final one.

Not that I'm angry.

Never seen AVGN, but 90% of the problems people have with retro games can be traced to not reading the manual.

It was a different time, though. By the 16/32 bit era, game designers were savvy enough to start integrating how to play into the level design, games had been around long enough to develop common, recognizable behavior and gamers were more savvy. Now there are straight up tutorials in games. Back then? I remember Magic Candle coming with a fucking book.

First thing I do on any gauntlet roll is go find a copy of the manual and read it.

Current rules say back one system, classic say NES.

Goddamn. Crystal Mines is the only NES gamne to drop me, but this might be the second. For those who don't know: the final obstgacle course is basically a button-mashing nightmare, which wouldn't be so bad if a) the buttons you have to mash didn't change b) sometimes you don't mash and c) you often have to mash alternating buttons, so none of the usual tricks work.

That's about right, yeah. I can get 7 prizes so far.

There's no need for so many screenshots.

In other news, my roll has brought me true suffering.

Man, why are you even doing the gauntlet, then? Playing a wide variety of games from throughout retro history is pretty much the core concept. Also, you got a platformer and one of the all-time classic puzzle games. Those two genres alone are going to cover a lot of the gauntlet.

You guys do realize you don't start with those systems, right? You start with the NES.

'Difficult' is Japan's 'Normal'. That Normal option there is easy.

Also, yeah, I agree. I don't find most Nintendo games hard. They just require a certain amount of time to get to know them. The only NES game to ever stop my run was Crystal Mines.

It's been the system that most routinely kills my runs. That and the occasional military flight sim form the DOS games.

S'what I said. Or in the manual, in the case of games like Crystal Caves.

The Tyson password is given in game, but only AFTER you beat him. I can't recall if the AI code is in the manual.
