Can happen pretty often and is annoying as hell.

It's a timeless classic - belonging to the elite of games.
I remember playing part 1 with people that normally didn't care about games - people loved it in coop. Part 2 is even better. I've never played part 3 though.
I heard that it is not as good as 2 and wonder why it fell short?

Never understood the "awesomeness" of Rise Of The Triad. It totally missed the sweet spot of design that made Doom and Company very enjoyable.
Blocks in open fields, jump pads, humor/gameplay gimmicks dished out without mercy for the unsuspecting player. Tom's mental spasms mixed with a phased out engine. Unlucky combo I guess.

25 - 45 at max.
150$ would be appropriate for a nice 486 or Pentium Pro setup.
Clintonville - den of evil Saxophone merchants.

A hell of a good time.
Atmosphere, excitement, laughs, intriguing twists, great music and gfx ... enjoy.

Come on - Quake costs like 9.99 on spleen and goes for even less on ebay for cd only. It's a timeless classic and if you take the engineering/art into account that went into it, it's surreal how little money a big part of gaming history costs.

Great to see Blood getting some well deserved love. I think the mission packs are great, especially the one from Sunstorm, they were ace mapmakers.
My favorite level is Overlooked Hotel - simply amazing.

It has a reset button *crickets*
I remember buying a HappyComputer magazine in the 80ies where there was a story about a hacker who was using a drastically modded C64 to siphon off money from bank accounts via modem... those were the days.

Not my thing but for some folks it's the kind of spin that makes them interested in Doom.

Quake is one of a kind - I'm so glad that they dropped the rpg idea and went with a straight shooter.
QTest1 is the Quake I like the most. I vividly remember when I wandered the corridors of the little marvel on my Pentium60 in 1996. It was magic.
Played some of the jam maps which are excellently crafted but somehow it feels like being on a movie set and not Quake - definitely prefer the maps of the original and the first mission pack.

Sold my A500 aeons ago - a great machine which I hooked up to my stereo. Vividly remember blasting NewYorkWarriors' theme day in and day out. Must play for me on the Amiga is Wings Of Fury, Stunt Car Racer and Major Motion. The latter is the only game I still love to play on my emulator... a game for the island.
Only vintage hardware I own is a modded C64, 1541, cassette drive and 2 joysticks.

Smear campaign in more than one sense.

A true gem - the one shooter next to Doom/Quake that is monumental.
Best played on a high clocked Athlon under Dos/Win98.

Remember that cut scene - hilarious how the face wobbles.

Great project.
DOS is great for creating something - simple and to the metal. A nice compiler like Watcom is the icing on the cake.
Only think I've always disliked were planar screen modes. Good luck

All three parts rock and are great at their own "game". Personally I would prefer part 3 as it's the most advanced playability wise. Part 1 is more of a cool 80ies slideshow... similar with part 2. A classic that never dies.

Doom64 was a great expansion of the established Doom universe.
Downsides are the laughable artwork of some monsters(pinky being an exception), the Quake like "support" clutter which is totally non Doom and the limitations of cartridge space. Other than that the quality of the maps, atmosphere and lighting is great.

The problem is that I have to write an editor for it. I tried to write a plugin for DB2 but C# drove me nuts. If I could I would nuke it.
The .001 alpha of the port is available for download sine more than a year - doomworld... search term : doom in true color.
I changed from the hsv color space to hsl which enables over brighting. When the port is done it will be for the color gourmets.

The powerfist sprite's looking great.
Regarding the colored lighting - Chocolor features truecolor sector colors and light gradients. Will still take a lot of time to finish since I'm not really a tech guy.

Willits is a great mapper - Quake DM1 and the infamous Q2DM1 The Edge are legendary. As a creative director he is so so, the wrong man on the right spot. He doesn't have Romero's vibrant brilliance. I'm happy that Carmack left the sinking ship.

Blood - after map three you should be hooked. I never had trouble running it in DosBox though I only use 640x400 or 320x200 which gives me the look I prefer.
The optimum machine for might by an old Athlon64, overclocked, with Win98. It practically muscles through high resolutions but make sure that you're using a video card which can handle the ones above 1024x768 without graphical glitches - maybe a univbe can help.
Also check out the PC version of Powerslave... pretty cool game.

Get it.
I still have the complete box I bought in 96.
Use a port for modern windows - Fitzquake or Engoo for a classic experience.
Fancy ports are also available.
