>Receive FF7 as a gift
>Nostalgia bomb drops, remember all the fun of getting all the limit breaks and maxing all the materia without any significant amount of grinding
>remember Chocobo Breeding
>re-gift it to someone else

Why is there no way around grinding out a goldie if I want an optimized KOTR build? And the way they set it up, it's as if the game wants the breeding process to take two whole discs and then some.

Funky Fishing
Minigame IN DKC GBC

I spent just as much time in it as I did 100%ing the main game.

Got a thing for the simple voice acting, especially the high pitched screams of the VictorCharlies.

>Shit happens.
>DAMN IT to HELL
>What makes the grass grow?
>.I'm about as useful as a football bat.
>*character screams after jumping down a waterfall*

>HO TAI TAHN?

I should go on a screenshot run since the game was so criminally overlooked in its time. Probably because it borrowed so many elements (and its engine) from Duke Nukem 3D, and the hitscan weapons suffered from permanent aim-assist (game was designed to be played without a mouse).

Unreal Tournament 2004

>> No.1055502 [View]

Not exactly retro, but I have on my desk (having found it today after over 6 years) in a white CD sleeve a pirated version of Red Alert 2, sans all its movie files and modded extensively with an outdated build for the Deezire mod, which increased faction distinctions and added cool things like remote detonators for Crazy Ivan bombs and some overpowered units (cleverly tucked away in the tech trees) from previous isometric C&Cs. I first played it back in 2002, and it was my first RTS.

This game was so magically broken and I spent many nights buried in it with my brother. I was a bit upset when I found out I'd been playing a cracked, and then heavily modded copy of a game that was supposed to have FMVs in it. Eventually I obtained a legitimate copy (then multiple other ones) and beat everything, went online, and tested my might. Then I delved into modding myself and everything worked out for the best.

UT, given the constraints of this board.

Quake as a series eventually pulled ahead of the pre-UE2 Unreal series, but Q3CPMA is still not retro. And since UT2 beats the whole Quake series in everything except obstacle courses and racing, Unreal would still be ahead even if this was /v/.

Also I personally prefer the first Quake to the first Unreal.

I'm big on arcade-style games and Tim Follin, but I'd be damned if this wasn't the first incredible retro track I thought of.

Nah Imperials have their niche down to a fine art. They're a low tier race for certain but not total ass like the Dark Elves.

Still I had no idea why Dunmer were so nerfed in post-Daggerfall TES - hope to find out what they were capable of in Daggerfall.

>> No.1052543 [View]

Wasn't very motivated to install Daggerfall but now that people are claiming Dunmer are worth a damn at least, I'm curious.

Easily the worst race in Oblivion and only behind the beast races in Morrowind.

It's regarded as the hardest game in the series by most of my friends. But as the other guy said the difficulty can be easily circumvented using some advanced game knowledge.

South Park Rally by Tantalus Interactive (PC Version)

Beats the pre-Gamecube Mario Kart games at literally everything, and served as an early warning that Greg Kasavin of Gamespot never had a clue what he was talking about.

NAM (aka Napalm) by GT Interactive

Was obsolete on release, but had all the gameplay depth of its more famous predecessor, Duke Nukem 3D, and was a fair challenge and a riot to play, once you learned how to disarm mines after stepping on them.

My Qanba Q4 has been magnificent for all the time i've owned it, though the spring is finally starting to weaken a bit.

On a related noteI'm looking for a place in the NYC/CT area where I can pick up a large number of miscellaneous arcade stick replacement parts.

If the remixed music didn't suck horrendously in SM:AS I would agree that they are all the definitive releases.

Fuck the Super Nintendo's awful steel drum sample.

are good so long as the player isn't dead set on the primary objective.

In a typical action game you don't want brick walls of difficulty or misdirection. In a typical metroidvania it's alright to hit a brick wall so long as you can still go left or right, keep playing and come back when you're prepped for more.

It reused a few tracks and that's it. Most notable is the one they replaced Slipslide Ride's track with when they moved the DKC track to the outdoor winterland areas.

No one would know or care what the 68k was today if not for Cho Ren Sha.

I like to believe that Pokemon Crystal and DKC (GBC) showcased every last thing the gameboy color was capable of and had top-tier sound techniques on top of that, but there's too many GBC games in this thread that I haven't played for me to seriously argue that.

What praise can be made about a game that attracts so many mongoloids and angry children?

My first formal exposure to this franchise was at the WCG '09 NA finals for 1.6 (not Source!) in NYC. It always amazed me how a game could be outdated but still hold the competitive crown for the entire genre - it was the only FPS being represented. Sitting behind the entire teams watching five screens at once was exhilarating, and the announcers on the group stage were highly knowledgeable, putting the Starcraft and Warcraft III announcers to shame.

So thanks, CS 1.6, for what you did for western eSports. Get hype.

Starcraft being competitively viable is not retro (patch and map pool was post-1999) and the proscene being anything but negligible is not retro.

Anyway I cheered for anyone who expressed their personality when they played. Flash, Leta, the dong, the hoon, fantasy, C-Hydra, jangbang, bisu, BoxeR, and eventually HiyA.

>>1025243
No one was as dominant for as long as Flash was, though Fantasy took over in Elo shortly after Flash died.
