A lot of this stuff is discussed on the commentary on the DVDs. I don't usually watch shows or movies with commentary on, but The Simpsons is an exception. The stuff they talk about, particularly in the earlier seasons, is really interesting, and yeah, Marge being a rabbit and Homer being Krusty is discussed on a few episodes.

It's a shame that they hate the fact that the animation in the pilot is actually good, though. Matt Groening particularly thinks it's too bouncy and cartoony and the rest of the staff is just whining about how awful they think it is.

There's a lot of it, but it's not necessary to enjoy the game except for the tutorials in the beginning.

Have you ever played Dynamite Headdy? You know how Sega of America kind of stripped the story from the game but it's still very much playable? I kind of look at it that way.

>I plan to do some in battle comparisons, but I'm not taking any new pictures until I've organized my PVM folder.

I would definitely like to see some off the PVM if that isn't too much trouble just to see how it compares to a television.

Conversely, I have this I made back in January. Standard 2006 tube TV, but the difference is still very noticeable, especially on text.

There really isn't an "official" one. Something like video output or video signal would work.

Saturn version is better by a longshot due to Working Designs nonsense, but the American PSX version is cheap enough that it's worth getting either way. The Japanese Saturn version is pretty expensive.

Yeah, whoops, I mixed that up.

The serial port's really the only deal-breaker because that makes it ridiculously easy to run CD-Rs and imports. Unfortunately, I believe the 900X models removed that. Supposedly the RCA outputs on the back of the 1001 model make for better sound than the A/V cables but I've never noticed a difference; certainly nothing substantial enough to go nuts to buy one. I honestly think it was just a rumor from people who don't touch video game consoles that got blown out of proportion.

Your best bet is one of the later models like the 5 or 700Xs since the farther you go back the more likely it is to be a console with a shot later, though I've never had issues with any of mine, personally.

Though unless you really want to play backups, you're better off with just getting a PS2. It natively outputs 240p with component, which the original PlayStation even with S-Video cannot compare with unless you have SCART, and the issues the PS2 has with PSX games is incredibly minimal. Mortal Kombat Trilogy is the only outright unplayable game I've ever played on it.

>> No.765113 [View]

There's no need to mod it; every single PSX model outputs S-Video fine. You just need an S-Video A/V cable, which you can find just about anywhere, usually labeled as a PS2 or 3 cable, but it works just the same.

This took me longer than I care to admit to look for.

Dunno about Ogre Battle but Tactics Ogre is a lot like that. Every few seconds or so during battle, usually after somebody's turn, the game will stop for a few frames to load. It's kind of off putting and annoying, but not nearly as bad as it is with the FF5, 6, and Chrono Trigger ports.

What, the dithering? It's supposed to look like that. Composite would warp it into a somewhat transparent looking image at the cost of being ridiculously blurry for everything else (And the rainbow banding common on model 1 units)

I'd take RGB with more noticeable dithering any day.

Game Genie, definitely. Some models like the X'Eye and Model 3 have a universal slot, too.

Some later games are region protected, regardless of whether it fits in the slot and it's best to check the rom an emulator with USA region settings.

No no no no good lord no. Do not ever use an NES cable for anything but the NES.

The Genesis needs DC. The NES is strictly an AC adaptor and mixing the two can and will fry the unit or worse.

Something that never went on the shelf, basically. In terms of video games it's complete bullshit. The moment you take the game out of the shipment box it's circulated as far as I'm concerned.

No, it doesn't fuck with wall jump timing at all.

In fact, there's very little "timing" to wall jumping at all. It's very forgiving considering how people have trouble with it. If you're really having trouble just watch for Samus' wall jump sprite when you start holding the opposite direction while you're hugging the wall. It's basically the game's way of saying "Hey you. Yes, you! If you press jump now Samus will wall jump!"

Just because there are games with GEMS that sound good doesn't at all make it a good engine. It's severely limited in its sound and is more akin to the Adlib music on DOS. While there's not inherently a problem with that, the YM2612 and SN79489 are far more complex than GEMS allows. Hell, I don't think there's a single game with GEMS that uses the SN79489 for music.

Because it sold for shit back when it came out and it had a way shorter initial shelf life than Anniversary Collection. After 2006 X Collection on both systems up until the PS2 reprint was really, really tough to find and got really expensive around 2009 or 2010 or so. As demand increases over time, prices go up. Now that supply on the PS2 version is more than meeting demand, the price dropped like a rock. However, people looking for the Gamecube version are out of luck, and that price is just going to keep increasing.

Same thing happened with every Atlus game on the PS2. All of them, especially Disgaea, Nocturne, and Devil Summoner 1 used to be ridiculously expensive; now every single one of them except Rule of Rose (Which I can almost guarantee is going to get printed again) got reprinted and now they're dirt cheap.

X Collection on PS2 got reprinted about a year ago and is still in print right now. Go check Amazon. It used to go for about $40 before the reprint, as did the Gamecube. The Gamecube version, naturally, hasn't gotten the reprint, so the situation kind of explains itself.

For a game like Mega Man Legends, anti-aliasing hurts the visuals more than anything, in my opinion.

Not to mention the ridiculous slowdown and fog issues and the afforementioned sound compression, 64's definitely the worst version of the game compared to the PSX version. No idea how the PC port was, though.
