Maybe. But a zandro mod won last year. They are a little less vicious in regards to multiplayer.

Ive beat Green Hill with a blindfold once, on a bet. Marble Zone is lame though. Labyrinth is worse, but Star Light makes up for all of it.

Ive made maps. I have stuff in the 1024 and 32in24 series, which was where I got my start.

Im kind of the "trial by fire" type so when it comes to mapping or DB2 the best thing to do is get it, toy around with it, see what you can do in a time frame and throw it in with whatever projects are happening on Doomworld.

I never bothered with tutorials, but I kind of got DB2 the day it came out (which is what started me mapping on a regular basis), so they didnt exist when I started.

tl;dr find a project. join in. Improve your craft by actually doing it.

Really hard to get real numbers here since there are a decent number of anons.

In terms of tripfolk though, I think this place is high in percentages than users on other doom forums (I am on Doomworld, IDL, and lurk all the multiplayer port boards) The next highest is probably Zandidrom. In terms of /vr/ I am only counting people who partake in doom threads.

Most of Delta is pretty good.

It has been a while since I could give you choices from Alpha, as it was hit or miss.

I never played enough of IU or Arma to give you my picks.

I wonder if mordeth will come out before the end of 1997.

No, I am not referring to 1997 AD, I am referring to 1,997 years after some major event that resets the calander as the world sees it.

That said, actual shit is happening regarding TNT2, so it may seriously be out before fall. The jury is out regarding SF12 though.

>BORN IN THE LATE 80s

Speaking as somebody else born in the very early 90s (1989), and didnt miss any of the above.

What next, you claim you missed the best of /vr/? Id say you were right on schedule.

Methinks you just didnt look hard enough or had attentive parents. Better late than never though!

Also born in '89. If you played games in your childhood, you were just fine. If you had older siblings or started REALLY early you were just fine.

If you go out and shop nowadays, you will still be just fine.

If you play what everybody conceives as popular, then you get DLC, always online, and the other hallmarks of what will be known the dark age of video gaming.
Then again, if you play games that are popular now, then you deserve every bad thing that comes with it, because you have low standards.

For every other aspect of your life though, you were born at the wrong time. vidya is fine though.

Enjoy never getting social security or a well-paying job out of college though!

There can be. Survival servers pop up every now and then, and they tend to have either difficult wads or the delightful "hard-doom" mod added. I'll see what can be done.

TL;DR at bottom of the post

As promised:

Once upon a time (Summer of 2007): some guy realized there was a lack of dm packs added recently (which is true, 2007 was more of a single player year) So he wrangled up a posse to make a 32 map DM wad in 24 hours. (Note: the term megawad generally means a wad that contains at least a whole episode worths of original map content...so anything with over 11 maps is generally considered a megawad...though some argue it needs to be a full 32 maps. In either case, 32in24 fits the bill. Said posse did just that and the community wanted in.

So for the next couple of months, there was a new theme every couple weeks where maps would be submitted to a theme in a 24 hour period, the best 32 of which made it into the pack.

After blowing their figurative creative load in volume 5, this team (now known as YEDS) took some time off and made a few more wads in 2008, with far more focus being on quality over quantity of wads. As such, after 2008, 32in24 kind of became a once a year thing. Due to the scarcity, they now moved past a map being done in 24 hours and there being 32 maps, so the project is really in name only, but it draws in a lot of big names (Mechadon, Kassman, and TGH! are 32in24 regulars who dont usually do multiplayer).

Actual quality control also ensues as of volumes 11 and 12. (BTW: there are 12 numbered entries in the 32in24 series, but the lesser known diet32in24, which isnt DM or a 32 map pack, also exists, so 13 or 12.5 also are acceptable)

Games modes include

Free for all
1 5 6 8 10 11

CTF
4 7 12

Duel
3 9

Single player (wont be used for a numbered 32in24 again)
2 diet

TL;DR
It is always a megawad. As of 2008, it is always multiplayer, but not necessarily Deathmatch.
