It's a real bummer that this one didn't take off the same way the Star Soldier one did, especially because this is a way better game. I wonder if I should have more time between editions - people may not be very interested in weekly shmupping compared to one showing up every blue moon.

This is what I get for having my first real shmupping experience being something as simple as Star Soldier. I got all 4 fighter jets, every red box I saw, all of the Bs, the amoebas, the in-the-circle miniboss, the eyes AND the bosses quicker than usual, but I still got lower than my current high score. I'm not even sure what I did differently. Maybe I missed more orbs than I thought?

I imagine the hugest amount of points comes from getting the mechs killed fast enough that I can make it to the B tiles. That's like 20 or 40k points, right?

Thanks, homie. Solid starting score! Don't forget about those secret bonuses - hit the B's, kill enemies quickly to get higher scoring enemies to appear, and blow up the eyeballs at the same time with your split shot.

In 5 minute, I wonder if it's a good idea to save the bomb you get for the final boss. I burned it in the middle when two big green dudes came down and it gave me a bonus for killing them.

It's interesting to see a shmup with speed control. What's funny is that the sequel Soldier Blade also has speed control, but only two: low and high. I feel like I only have use for level 2 speed at the very beginning where I need to go faster than slow, but the normal shot is too narrow to hit anything if I'm flying fast.

It seems like my biggest problem may be losing my powerups at the bosses because I'm in too close and get hit by something - usually the yellow bombs from the second dude, I think. Also just keeping calm - there's a lot of shit on screen, and I end up flying all over the goddamn place at top speed just trying to catch and shoot everything and end up running into shit.

Yeah, I think it'd be easier to ban it for our purposes just because it'd be pretty annoying to have to have everyone use a specific emulator just to get proper autofire to be competitive. I gotta revert your score, unfortunately.

2Spicy had a double pedal system back in 2007. It was also fucking awesome because it was a pvp game where you played against an opponent running around a level full of destructible cover shooting it out like a competitive gallery shooter. It's such a goddamn bummer that the only arcade that had it near me closed down a long time ago. Playing that against a friend was some of the most fun I ever had on a machine.
