You'll have to bite the bullet, I'm afraid. Unless you've got an independent game store near you that specializes in retro games, you're not going to find gamebits in the wild. Believe me, I have tried. I ended up going the eBay route in the end.

>Goodwill
never see vidya at them anymore, besides the occasional PSX console (with no hookups)

I still hit up swapmeets though. Need to start targeting yard sales too, I don't comb through them often enough.

pic related, latest swapmeet finds (not counting the records, those were from a record store)

prices were nothing amazing ($3 and $8 for PSO and TLOZ respectively), but it was my first time in a long time so hey why not

Born 1990. First console was the SNES.

No regrets. I got an N64 for my 7th birthday, and my friends all had PlayStations, so I got to take in a decent chunk of that 5th gen goodness as a kid. And thanks to the various retro compilations that came out during the 6th gen, I got to catch up on some of the classics while I was still a young teen.

Protip: it's never too late to play a game, and it doesn't matter if it's older than you are. That's why this board exists in the first place.

I owned one when I was a kid and it didn't do shit to fix my scratched CD-Rs. Just scuffed the whole data side up. The discs still played, but only about half the time.

So glad that nowadays there's places near me that do resurfacing with a fancy schmancy machine for $2 a disc.

Well, I screwed myself out of a deal today. I saw a copy of Chrono Trigger at a reseller's booth today, figured "what the hell, I'll bite, I never see this game in the wild anyway". So I asked how much, and the reseller responded $24.

Now I could have run with that easily and been a happy man, but I just had to go full jew and try to haggle that price tag. I asked her if she would let it go for a flat $20, and that's when things went south-- she said she'd have to phone the boss to ask.

At this point, I could have aborted all negotiations and accepted the $24 price tag, but my mind was like "now wait a minute, let's see where this is going", so I said nothing. After a moment of tension, she broke the bad news to me-- the boss jewed back. He wouldn't take a penny under $40.

Now $40 is still a good deal, but when it gets that high, I figure I'd better just try to hold out and hope I get lucky during a bin dig. Worked out well when I was really wanting Banjo-Kazooie not too long ago.

I left the swap meet with only a few collection fillers. My only /vr/ applicable purchase was Spyro: Year of the Dragon (black label) on PS1 for $6.

I've been watching LPs since 2008 and considering doing some of my own... I have all the proper equipment now, so maybe soon, and I find that I enjoy group commentary more than solo commentary for the most part. Some LPers are just great presenters.

But digging through YouTube for good Let's Plays is like digging around all the copies of Madden 94 at the pawn shop looking for a SNES game that you'd actually want to add to your collection.

Picked up Kwirk + all the non-retro in this pic at the swapmeet. Didn't do great on the prices, but I'm not mad.

Also locked a Craigslist deal for this Sega Saturn today: $30 including all cables, the controller, and Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. I've been wanting a Saturn for the longest time now, so I'm super pleased. Today's my birthday, too! How appropriate.

Had a little extra cash today, so I hit up a few places.

Left the swapmeet with Zelda: Four Swords on the Gamecube for $5 and the following PS1 games for $3 total (all disc only):

>NCAA Game Breaker 99 demo disc
>South Park Rally
>Twisted Metal 4
>Legend of Mana
>Dino Crisis 2

Stopped by the pawn shop afterward and saw Banjo-Kazooie for $5, really happy about getting that one. I've been looking out for the B-K games for a long time now; I never really had the chance to play them as a kid.

this past weekend's pickups are nonretro (pic related), but i do have a /vr/ related anecdote:

I came across a reseller booth at the flea market that fit the reseller stereotype 100% this weekend. They had rows upon rows of minty looking cartridges, pretty much ALL Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon related with no label damage whatsoever, hot items like CBFD and Super Metroid, and tons of systems, including some very nice SNES and colored N64 units, all lined up neatly, all individually priced to fit the eBay market, most of them sitting in display cases, waiting for their turn to be purchased, but priced too high to be worth it. Disgusting.

It was a video game graveyard, guys. Most of those cartridges will probably never see a loving home again, unless they end up on eBay in the end and some idiot actually bites.

So hard to find first-party Nintendo franchises for cheap lately. I guess I kind of lucked out with some of the titles in the pic, but even still I could have done a bit better (I averaged ~$7.50 per game here).

These two for $35.
That's about what they'd go for loose on eBay, but since both are boxed, I'd say I did okay.

NiGHTS had to be done. After missing a great deal on a Saturn with a bunch of games by mere seconds a few months back, I had to at least walk off with NiGHTS today.

Non-retro: Also bought another Dreamcast controller.

it's really not that sexy in person

I own one and it looks and feels like a toy. It's very light and plasticky, and only has RF video out with no shielding, which was fucking stupid even in 1983. The 60-pin is also pretty finicky, especially with FDS games, and with NES titles run through a 72-60 adapter (though that could easily be chalked up to a well-worn connector, and is not a design flaw per se). I greatly prefer my American NES; it just works.

I would kill for an AV Famicom though... mmm.

Apparently it's a screen printing utility for the 400/800. Google returns a rarity value of 8-9 for the cart on various Atari computer cart lists, but I don't suppose it has a very high market value, if any.

All this shit for $12.

All the Atari games were $5.
Body Harvest was $4.
Mario Bros. was $3.

The labelless black cart is Space Invaders. The labelless white cart is Zaxxon.

Most of them were third-party. There were like 6 controllers in that bin, and they were all broken or mushy. Trackballs, paddles, flight sticks, the standard one-button stick, all that shit.

The standard sticks weren't sixer sticks though, they were the more common type.

Hit up the pawn shop on Sunday and the swap meet this morning.

The SNES games were $1.67 each.
Mischief Makers was $2.
The Heavy Sixer was $20. Dude wanted $60 for the set including controllers and games, but the controllers were beat to shit and the games were all super-common, so I just took the system.

this port
all PlayStations have them

you'll need a proprietary PlayStation s-video cable to get s-video from it though

they're cheap on Amazon right now: http://www.amazon.com/PS3-S-Video-Cable-Playstation-3/dp/B000N5JS5A/

The discrete S-video port was only present on the SCPH-1000 (first Japanese model).
PS1 supports S-video through the multi AV out though. It looks very good.
