Use ZDL for a mod launcher, GZDoom for gameplay/advanced map mods and PRBoom/GLBoom for vanilla-like gameplay at high-rez. Let monsters infight to save ammo.
Other than that, circle-strafe like a bitch and shoot at it until it dies.

Alright, I figured it out. I was actually using an older version of Crispy DOOM from 2019, which didn't have widescreen rendering, so I didn't understand what was going on. When you play with widescreen, the traditional HUD isn't available. If you turn off widescreen rendering (so the game is back in 4:3) You can use the old HUD (or the new one with the face, which wasn't available in the version I had before). Thank you for indirectly reminding me to update my copy of Crispy, anon.
