What do you mean? What game? You know, voxels actually originally were flat. They were basically a collection of 1-pixel sprites that face the player. Because the whole point was to make a 3D effect when they didnt have actual 3D technology.

It still renders them as models.
Whereas in software mode, theyre a collection of flat sprites oriented to face the camera. Which, IMO, can actually look more convincingly 3D than Minecraft-esque cubes.

Voxels are collections of pixels in a 3D shape. They were made this way as a less costly alternative to 3D models. And the 2D pixels actually look more convincing than the cubes IMO, since they blend together from a distance.
