Both systems could do godly pixelated games, the Saturn pulled 2D off better overall, but the PSX could do some great stuff with 2D+3D, so they kinda even out there. And their successors have some of the best 2D gameplay ever presented.
To me, great 2D, even on weak systems like the NES(Kirby) and Genesis/SNES(Contra games, Castlevanias, etc) just looks superior to 3D ever can. Symphony of the Night on PS2 over component kicks the utter shit out of Wolfenstein II. It just does. Not even by gameplay standards, just the look.

It's the same with movies. Fantasia looks better than any modern CG animation. Especially on LSD.
PS: If you fags have never watched Fantasia on LSD, schedule it. You must do this before death.

It always seems to take longer than I think it's going to take to finish these.

Some of the games aren't even fully 2D but I guess the original anon who compiled this list considered them fitting enough anyway.
