Should've wrote down TL;DR version, so there it is. I tried:
General Idea.
>Proof of concept for a new singleplayer Quake game.
>Main feature of it are meant to be Runes that unlock alt-fire for a few weapons and require mana alongside ammo to use them.
>Be as vanilla compatible as possible and much more humble than Arcane Dimensions and Alkaline in scope.
Maps.
>Each map should have a unique goal and elements that make them stand out on their own.
>Only use WAD's from original Quake and Mission Packs with potential recolors.
>Might look at other games for inspirations, not just Hexen series. Like Daikatana or Chasm.
Weapons.
>Shorther keybinds (from 1-8 to 1-5).
>Maximum amount of mana is 100.
>Black Magic allows to use your Axe to restore 10 health for 10 mana.
>Mjolnir loses its AOE attack from SoA and doesn't use Cells. Elder Magic unlock a ranged fire similarly to Vorpel Sword with Tome of Power from Hexen 2. Slightly stronger than melee attack, knock back or stuns an enemy for a bit at the cost of 5 mana.
>Hell Magic reduces the fire delay of Shotguns by 1/3 for 3-6 mana per shot.
>Earth Magic provides lava nails for Nailguns for 2-4 mana per shot.
>Grenade Launcher might get a proximity mine as alt-fire by default.
>Railgun as a novelty weapon that uses Cells and might be available only on secret level.
Enemies.
>Make a proper use of original roaster.
>Bring back Centroid and Wrath from Mission Packs.
>Ghoul - inspired by Deep One, Ghoul and Ghast from Petersen's Guide. Melee enemy similar to Zombie Knights from AD. Their attack might be poisonous.
>Warlord - based on Axe Ogre, Centaur (Hexen) and Stone Golem (Hexen 2). Uses machete and shield with potential effects of Empathy and Power Shields from Mission Packs.
>Makrogg - copy of Gladiator from Quake 2, so that railgun would be more useful to the project.
>Byakhee - reskin of Fire Imp from Hexen 2, but maybe without ranged attack.

Wouldn't it be wacky if Quake mappers started placing their maps in a continuous format like the original episodes, or Doom mappers always do, instead of just bundling their levels in Master Level-like compilations? haha just an idea.

I don't understand why they decided to put Eisen in the game, you know the red-headed guy? Yeah, you probably forgot he even existed.

Seriously though, why the fuck? He's such a bland looking character, and looks completely out of place.

Why would they waste time adding him at all? Why not add some more fan favorites to get people hyped? Whoever is running the dev team must be fucking retarded.

Man Brigandine is kicking my ass but it's a fucking awesome map, I think all the assets are vanilla but it's all used in such a way it's blowing my socks off

I've literally never thought to compare them until now, and don't know how I haven't.

I love them both but I guess Metroid's tighter, way more focused with appropriate payoff? SotN can go all over the place and kind of breaks itself gameplay-wise but still has some thorns and is fun.

What does it say about me where I can't finish NuDoom or NuWolfenstein but am currently plowing through Quake?

I only made it halfway through those games. I haven't really played Quake since I was 8, so I'm really "playing it" for the first time. It's exactly what I wanted, blasted through the base game and first expansion currently on second. I dipped a bit into Arcane Dimensions and can't wait to play the fuck out of it.
