Been playing Zelda Outlands lately. I have known about this one for years. I have even had it in my rom library on several occasions. Just starting to work through it.

Very good game.

Pretty much me

It’s pretty amazing how romhacks went from Afro Mario to better output than the actual rights holders produce.

While there are some great original games, I prefer hacks that do what I think a proper modern rerelease ought to.
>Secret of Mana Turbo
>Super Mario World 30th Anniversary
>Zelda 1/2 Redux
>Super Metroid Redux
>Final Fantasy VI Ted Woolsey Uncensored Edition
These are very well-done mods. I’ve played the original games on original hardware, and these don’t take anything away from the experience while only making worthwhile additions. I would even recommend them for a first-time playthrough. If anyone takes these recommendations please tell me what you thought.

One thing I’ll say about FF6 hacks is that there are so fucking many, they really need their own mod client. Plenty of console game mod communities do this now (Secret of Mana, Mario/Zelda64 PC ports).

Thanks for the list. I am looking for a high quality hack I can sink my teeth into so I'll be checking these all out starting with SMW 30th anniversary.

Good news, everyone! Super Metroid X-Fusion isn't dead!

Bad news, everyone! He's hit the LoROM size limit and has to start cutting things from the game.

Don't be discouraged. These kinds of things happened when the original games were coming out as well. These old hardware platforms really did have some strict limitations.

Redpill me a rom hack that changes or expands the entire game like FF6 T-Edition/Brave New World?

>Castlevania Harmony - Findesiecle Deluxe
Pretty massive hack that adds a stupid number of characters, from other CV characters, to shit like mega Man.

There's a bunch of fire emblem hacks, but the custom graphics in this one put above the rest

There was a part in this Zelda ALttP doc that mentions dungeon headers that checks whether or not the boss is defeated. Does anyone know where those are in the ROM?

Most of the "news" is the hacker/translator writing it themselves on the "news submission" page which the mods look over for 5 seconds before accepting it. There's rarely anything pertaining to something else like when the forum layout was updated a few weeks ago with no warning or announcement. The only thing the mods tend to post as "news" is the automated RHDNBot posts that they don't even write themselves. The only thing that counts as "news" to me is what's under the Changes tab.
