For me, zelda didn't get good until a link to the past. Not a big fan of MM either, it's definitely worth a playthrough, but it doesn't resonate with me like OoT does.

probably because Zelda II's weirdness is in it's gameplay*, while Majora's Mask's weirdness is mostly in it's story and setting

*not calling it bad, but it definitely is odd in that regard, can't really think of any other game that quite plays like it
