Microcabin's answer to Falcom's Ys. Nice little arpg series originally for 8-bit japanese computers. The Msx versions have nice english versions courtesy of Woomb.
Xak III is on PCE-CD and has an English patch by the infamous Nightwolve. Pretty cool, but voices are still in japanese, without subs.

I agree the pce version is pretty cool looking, but who needs smooth scrolling anyway. Towel of Gazzel is a jpc exclusive but it's the SOULest entry of the series.
