That's it. Never used oshpark as I have local suppliers but $1.9 for 3pcs with free shipping. Not bad. Might do a version that sits between the two caps and solders directly to the IC.

I need help with my MD/Genesis controllers.
Buttons are unresponsive. Of 2 controllers 1 barely works if I press the buttons really hard.
Anyone else experienced this kinda problem?

how does this make you feel?

N64 likes to flip a shit and start randomly restarting (it will often do it several times in a row). Already tried opening it up, cleaning it and doing all sorts of shit to the AC adapter (tried multiple adapters, tried "propping it up", etc.) I've had this particular N64 for 20 years now, so I'd rather try to save it than buy a new one.

Any ideas?

>> No.4513854

>>4513789
could be a lose solder point in the AC plug, broken or faulty expansion pack, or maybe a broken reset switch, try dropping some alcohol or even better some WD40 inside the reset switch and push it several times to clean the inside.

Try wiggling the AC adapter to see if maybe its a broken pin in the ac plug.

I've already thoroughly cleaned all of the buttons and innards, and I've also tried all of the AC adapter tricks.

I've done a TON of 7800 and 2600 AV mods, like dozens. Today I did my first stereo mod. It's actually kinda cool! Not a lot of people know this, but there were a bunch of Atari games that were in stereo, especially the early ones. It's neat hearing it actually work.

Just finished up these babies-- repro cart of Earthbound, and translated Japanese cart of Chrono Trigger. They're both working great!

Next project is a Final Fantasy IV translation cart-- that's going to be a lot trickier since the game was a 2MB lo-rom on one chip. It can be done but it will take a bit of rewiring. Fortunately FFV and FFVI will be very straightforward.

check if, when the console rests you see the red led turn off and on again, that would be an inicator that the power is going off which could mean a bad cap and im not sure how easy will be to replace them, they look surface mount.

If it doesnt turn off then you should try with a borrowed expansion pack.

Otherwise, youre in for a flea market hunt for another loose console, ive seen them going for around $10 regularly, just be constant on your hunt and youll find one in a few weeks guaranteed.

did you solder a new EPROM on an original board or is it a repro board inside an original shell? i did the latter with mine.

>> No.4518101

>>4518041
The former. Was going to do it on a second cart I am making for my brother but that one was odd in that it had two mask ROMs instead of one. I was under the impression that all Chrono Trigger boards were the same but apparently some Japanese boards aren't.

Fortunately it's exactly the same board as NHL 96 and 97, and I have a few of those handy.

Found a beat up Snes for $5 today at the flea market, only ested for the red led to turn on and it did.

once at home i put a game and it worked but there was some video problem tho, the sreen looked like there was interfereane and kinda wavy at the top, a blue line that got big then small, strange thing , anyways, i opened it up and it was all dusty but no signs of water damage.

After taking the board appart, washed it with Iso alcohol and a tooth brush, let it dry for an hour, proceed to test again and now it gives me a black screen.

7805 gets hot, red led turns on, but no signs of life, cabkles and games work on my other oconsole.

So sad, this is the very first Nintendo console that dies on my hands.

Check the voltages coming out of the 7805. Maybe if you replace the regulator, you could save it. Worked on a Genesis I had that did something similar.

I'm not sure if this is a right thread to ask it but fuck it.

How do you mod a Dreamcast? Tried googling but the results are varied.
I'm thinking of getting a 2nd hand Dreamcast however, I recall before that someone from /v/ told me that if you want to have a Dreamcast, you better get the right model if you want to mod it. With that in mind, what model of Dreamcast should I get?

Anon you need to seriously consider the length of your wires. Your mod work looks pretty good but those wires should be as short as possible.

If you want a much cleaner look that eliminates the RCA jacks, check out TRRS cables. They sell them here https://store.retrofixes.com/products/trrs-3-5mm-to-gold-rca-jacks-6-used-with-atari-jr-and-nes-upgrades but I'm sure you can find them cheaper if you look around. Using these on an atari jr model, you can make it an ultimate stealth mod. You have to remove the rf connector on your console, but the female trrs port fits in that same hole.

When I modded mine I got lazy and just did dual mono, but you've got me interested, I may look up stereo mods. Do you have any links to info on them?

>mod a Dreamcast?

It depends, what do you want it to do? The ultimate mod is a usb gdrom with a pico psu power supply. The usb gdrom is a plug and play, no soldering required. They make 3d printed trays to give it a finished look, I think the guy's name who does the trays is callingall or something, thingiverse has the 3d printing files if you know somewhere to 3d print or he sells them on ebay.

Well shit, didn't search enough to know that that exist.
I was thinking more of making it to read burned CDs since that's what on my mind. But if that option exists, then sure, give me some details about it including the previous statement about burned CDs.

If you're only looking to read burned cdr, just get an early model. Just google "what dreamcast model reads cdr" and you should have the answer. Now if you want to do other region media, it gets a bit more tricky. Here's a good summary: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/how-to-play-imports-on-dreamcast

There are other things like http://www.retrocollect.com/News/how-to-attach-a-hard-drive-to-the-sega-dreamcast-a-load-games-via-dreamshell.html that you can do, though a bit more involved and less clean looking than the usb gdrom.

If you do decide to go the usb gdrom route, fair warning, the ordering site seems sketchy as hell, but the guy does deliver. You'll pay, then you'll hear nothing for about 1-2 months, then it arrives on your doorstep. It's quite scary, in the meantime, but the dude is honest. English is his second language so he doesn't talk or email too much, but the guy does deliver. In a niche market like this, any scamming would instantly ruin your business. He's delivered probably hundreds of these over several years without incident. You just have to be patient for the mail to arrive.

But yeah, if you're just wanting to play off cdr, get an early model and go to town. The "rom" format that you'll use on cdr is called .cdi.
