Outrun was more fun as an arcade game. I had super hang on as part of the Triple Score cart and I played the shit out of it. I might be one of 10 people in the world that has beaten original mode. For proof I’ll tell you the ending: it fucking sucks, there is no ending. You’re the King, but you’re also a Virgin. Congratulations on wasting your fucking time for half a year playing this shit over a decade after the genesis’s life cycle. and my favorite tracks were
1. Winning Run.
2. Hard Road
3. Outside a crisis
4. The theme from Fantasy Zone

Super Hang On is just brutally hard, I can't get into it at all. I don't imagine playing it on the actual bike cabinet would make it any easier. No clue about the original Hang-On however.

If you're playing a version that controls with a D-pad, that's unnecessarily jerky and annoying. Play a version that can be controlled with a stick, like the MAME one, much smoother and nicer. Still hard but not in an annoying way
And if the stick movement is still too jerky, the trick is to keep pushing forward on it as you drive and nudge it to the side gently. That's how you play sensitive racing games on a gamepad, works for Assetto Corsa too

I've seen the overclocking option in lot's of emulators, but I've never used it in fear of breaking the games. Does it actually work well in increasing the FPS or just makes most games run faster?

For 4th gen games it does remove slowdowns in most cases that I know of. 5th gen and above it might increase/break the actual speed of games but it's on a game by game basis, depending on how it's been programmed.

I enjoy Outrun for a casual run through all the routes, but Super Hang-On is more challenging, the turbo mechanic makes the driving more fun, and it has a more exciting soundtrack.
