- at the end of dystopia 3 you blow up microsoft all right that's probably a bit lame now but i thought it was funny at the time

- in one map in EARTH.WAD there are ladies and gentlemens bathrooms and the gents has a spyhole in the wall through which you can see into the ladies

- in Suspended in Dusk there is a place that's a really obvious monster teleporter trap, but when you pick up the key only a single imp comes out. you get just long enough to think "...is that it?" before all hell breaks loose. the timing is exquisite.

I don't want to say too much about future plans for the mod (I'll be a little more open once we hit open beta), but the general idea is...yes! There will be a separate Zandronum version which will have all the same weapons and features (hopefully).

No? Lots of the classes were good at different things, so as a team you tend to have a good mix of capabilities, although the Marathon guy is probably one of the best flag carriers because he's extremely floaty. Then again, the Chex Warrior is also awesome because his HP is fat.

Sheesh, this sucks. I extracted all Thief Gold textures, some Daggerfall, Hexen and Strife sprites and I am ready to make a Thief mod, target: ZDoom audience.

But I am STILL missing some sprites, and I suck, SUCK SO MUCH at making sprites without using any sheet.
I tried to draw Heretic guy (I'll use his sprites for the thief) to hold a corpse of a guard, but after making a simple sketch, I threw up and raged for 10 minutes.

I really doubt that would happen, at least in my case. My interest in Doom reached a kind of plateau since I've first rediscovered Doom with BD, and it hasn't waned since. If anything once the FINAL DEFINITIVE version of BD is done, I kind apply my personal tweaks to it and NEVER EVER have to fucking go through that again. I could be 80 years old and have that perfect version of BD to go to if I have a hankering for it.

This song was easily named. You wouldn't believe how people in the id Software offices used to line up to watch John Romero play DOOM. Long before the sound effects were in the game, John would provide his own, and he was good at making a lot of sound effects with his mouth. But, the reason that people lined up to watch him play was that he put everything he had into playing the game. If it was a deathmatch, look out! John threw a constant barrage of taunts, screams and other sounds at the opposing players. One day I noticed how quiet things got while people were gathering to watch and I decided to do some pensive music to go with such times. Thus, the song became "Waiting For Romero To Play."

Yes, but not the entire soundtrack. How exactly do you go about making a "metal remix" of, say, E1M2's track, or E2M4's? Well, you start by ruining everything good about the track, and then you make them extremely loud and not ambient at all, and finally, you ruin the atmosphere of every map those tracks are used in.

Seriously though, try using contractor, he starts with SSG, black armor (the best), and 8 stims and meds right away.

Also, learn to heal. Use medikits to stop bleeding (the black screen flickering - red pulsing is fine and actually means you're recovering, albeit slowly. Don't move while using the medikit, or you'll just screw up everything and hurt yourself more. After you're sure that you aren't bleeding anymore, use a stimpack to regain lost health. Both items take some time to work, so make sure you're in a safe place before using them. A berserk pack will give you lots of health points and buff up your fist like usual, but once the healing wears off you'll probably find yourself suffering a few injuries that weren't there before, even if you didn't get hit at all.

So, to recap:

>if you get shot, use a medikit or two to stop the bleeding
>stand still to use the medikit
>use stimpacks to recover health, but make sure you aren't bleeding first

Some additional protips for not sucking at HD:
>keep both shotguns fully loaded whenever possible
>get a second pistol as soon as possible - you can't dual-wield them, but you'll take out the second one once the first pistol is emptied, so if you're stuck in a bind and none of your main weapons have ammo, you can at least defend yourself adequately

>the assault rifle and plasma rifle both have scopes that can help you hit enemies at long ranges. You can use the scope by pressing the zoom key and standing still.
>the plasma rifle works by firing at one spot for a few seconds. Because of this, it's extremely hard to use against monsters directly. Aim it at the ground, or a nearby wall.
>when dealing with spectres, use the SSG. Bait it like you'd bait a vanilla pinky, and smash it with both barrels at once. If you only fire one barrel at a time, it'll vanish and run away and reappear just when you don't need it to.
>get to know the shotgun. It becomes an absolute death machine once you learn to fire it quickly, putting out damage that would make the vanilla weapons lose sleep at night wondering why they couldn't be that badass.
>prioritize the smaller imps over the bigger ones. The smallest variant has the ability to revive corpses, so they should be your first target in any engagement where they can access enemy corpses.
>there's no shame in playing on a lower skill level than what you're used to. It's a hard mod and it's nigh unplayable on many custom maps.

A fairly old WAD played in Skulltag/Zandronum. I hate to say this (and I don't mean to stir the pot by telling it), but this is a poor man's GTA, this WAD was intended to create a free-roam, sandbox experience in the Doom engine, but it lacks a lot of things that are present in REAL sandbox games

The graphics are really nice, but I think you could have done better with the actual weapon.
An SMG is practically one of the most typical weapons you'll find in a weapons mod; I can't speak for the others, but I initially got excited because of the sexy melee-combo system, so having a plain-jane SMG right after seems a little underwhelming.

There's a reason the weapon descriptions are rather "realistic", and that's because I had WildWeasel write them. I really wanted some kind of semblance of "realism" as far as the description of the weaponry goes, but not so much how the weapons actually work. I don't care about being too outlandish because it's a game about killing demons and I've done Diaz/Hernandez already (if I didn't try to make that super apparent already, I did do 95% of the graphics and such in both of those).

I think the question I'm going to field at you guys is "What do you want to see?" I'd hate to disappoint and I love the melee combos just like you guys. I have one more "melee" weapon planned that is taking a lot of my time and hopefully will be done before the Open Beta release, but it's extremely cool and I haven't seen anything like it before. But as far as the Uzi (which is indeed spray-and-pray as someone said earlier, and yes, the shotgun and pistol are included in this question), what do you guys want to see done to those to make them a bit more "stylish"? This is my first serious endeavor into a solo weapon mod so I am learning as I go.

I'm pretty sure all of us want different things, but.
Lemme look through the stuff you've got made already. There's the pistol, whose description is almost entirely gun porn and with things completely irrelevant to gameplay.
The Shotgun, which apparently will have a super-accurate firing mode, and the SMG which will have a very large magazine.
Now I looked at the other weapons you said in the OP, with a boomerang and a crossbow, and it seems that you're going for a mix of style and grounded with this, and that's going to be very interesting if you do it well. A combination of orthodox and unorthodox.

Now, the main character is a space pirate, right? Works for a batch of space pirates. Description brings up talk of mercenaries as well.
These guys aren't traditional orthodox military. Practically the opposite of it. They're pirates. They break the rules, bend stuff, and sometimes play dirty.
I think that could extend to weapons as well--"illegal" modifications you can find and install later on that make the gun just plain crazy in some way, while still keeping them grounded in realism. They don't care about keeping the gun's integrity intact, they just want to cause damage.
Like, say, modifying pistol/smg rounds to be hollow-point and loaded with thermite, so that they explode and burn on contact with enemy flesh.
Or sliding a tube of glass down the front of the shotgun so that the bullet shatters it and sprays it out on fire, creating bouncing razor-sharp mutilating blades.
Or underslung grenade launchers on everything--even duct-taped, if needed.

It's a huge ammo waste except in clutch situations (i.e. I need to stagger this fucker NOW) or when taking out large groups of weak hitscanners. Use it when you're fighting stronger enemies and you'll be out of ammo in no time. It's less accurate and less powerful than the regular shotgun, all it's got is fire rate which means more DPS.

There are also a lot of other guns to use, I don't see your point. By your logic the Pulse Rifle is also OP because it has plentiful ammo, fast fire rate and good damage. If you're playing it in vanilla of course it's going to be easy. Vanilla is easy. The mod is made to work in such a way that it's not significantly harder than vanilla, while still adding in a bunch of new enemies and a few new guns. If you want a challenge, play a harder PWAD. Or maybe it's just not the mod for you.

If I weakened it at all from where it's at right now it would be too weak to justify ever using. The autoshotgun functions more as a chaingun that uses shotgun rounds than the other shotguns, and it is intentionally like that.

Also, are you using the newest version? There haven't been many weapon changes, but there have been a LOT of bugfixes so you should probably get 1.29 ASAP.

I'd make glorious progress & have everything dead, & then all of that would stop because of some obscure shit I had to do to make progress to the end of the level. Ok, apologies for the past post. Back to Doom

Let me share something that I've been working on for the entire day. So we have this little indie game called Gone Home, which have been on controversy for the past few days since it got reviewed with tons of 10/10 and it's being treated as the Citizen Kane of vidya for many reasons

People on /v/ have been making threads all day about this, and they found out that you can skip almost the entire game by doing what this GIF displays, and it doesn't even take one and a half minute to do all of this. You can put some popcorn on the microwave, cook it, go back to play and finish the game, and you can calmly go back to the microwave and see that it's still cooking 'em

Okay, so based on this I've been preparing what could be called GoneHome.wad (or GoneHomo.wad, heh), which is the entire game done in Doom with stock textures, and done in ZDoom in Hexen format. And this is what I have so far (which is like 30% of the whole thing)

And why am I posting this unfinished piece of crap you may ask? Many reasons

>My focus is on mapping ONLY what's being showcased in the GIFs that have been posted 'till death. At least for now. If /v/irgins really want this thing to be filled with feminism jabs and whatnot, I would need screenshots of the entire house, but I doubt anyone would be willing to do that.
>Despite watching almost all the youtube tutorials about mapping in ZDoom in Hexen, there's still a lot of things that are new to me, so you may find a lot of things out of place, or some parts being mapped totally wrong. I do apologize for that. If ANYONE would like to help me with the mapping stuff, I would appreciate it like you have no idea. Remember, the focus is to map what's being shown on the GIFs

Now, there's a couple of things that I would like to see being implemented as a bonus

The PC indie game ends with you reaching the attic and opening a book. What I have in mind is that you reach the attic and just after reaching the zone where the book is and hitting the USE button, you get teletransported to one of those "room elevator" thingies that became so common in SLIGE maps (those who were bored enough to play SLIGE maps may know what I'm talking about), you see the pic of my last post? I want that elevator to have that texture on all of its sides. And then after hitting the switch you get trapped in a room with tons of /pol/'s Shreks with the face being changed by the one from that bald feminist with black lipstick on her lips

What I want is that you get to "die" in that room, in the same style you "die" in Knee Deep in the Dead (that means, right after you reach 10% or less of health the map just ends like that)

Right after the death sequence, I want to switch directly to the intermission screen (just like the first episode of Doom), and the text would include all the sites who have been praising Gone Home for the past days and all those 10/10 included. I've included a MIDI file which is a D_READ_M replacement which is supposed to be played while the intermission screen is being shown.

And right after the intermission screen the game just ends, no MAP02 at all. I don't know how to do this (but I know a few maps which are capable of doing it, Adventures of Square is one of them).

Also, you may note that the secret entrance to get the blue skull is slightly shitty due to my lack of knowledge about mapping in ZDoom in Hexen. If anyone happens to find a better way to include that area without problems I would thank whoever takes the time to make the changes
