>Capcom
has always been a great "developer", I don't think this has changed. I loved Asura's Wrath/Dragon's Dogma, and the whole SF4 revival was fantastic for the FGC. Despite RE6 being very disappointing and a huge misfire for the series, I still think it was packed with a lot of content (too much, actually) and was still as enjoyable as most games released last year (IE, Capcom's "worst" is still better than say, anything getting released by Bioware today...TOHHHHHHHHH)
That said, as a PUBLISHER, as a BUSINESS, they are abysmal. DLC policies, treatment of previous/current franchises, etc. However, I still pause to give them shit for that.

Bear in mind, Capcom's "policy" for
>REVIVE ______ FRANCHISE
is
>buy more of it now!
But this is the same for -every- company. Every Japanese company says the same shit,
>YOU WANT SEQUEL? BUY MORE GAEMMMM!!
Capcom has so many franchises that are fucking awesome that its not the same as Square turning Final Fantasy into a shit train (IE, make Final Fantasy like ____ again or remake ____). We notice it for -every- franchise Capcom refuses to return to.

For a 90s JRPG developer, they were phenomenal and loved to bring over games that would never make it to stateside otherwise. Sure, translation added "humor" was hit or miss, but I miss them.

I didn't much like Asura's Wrath, but Dragon's Dogma is pretty good.

The only franchises Capcom is actually developing games for is Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Resident Evil.

Resident Evil kinda goes back and forth between shit and not as shit (That 3DS games was alright), Street Fighter is pretty good, Monster Hunter is still going strong except for the fact that MH4 isn't fucking being localized.

Everything else has been killed off. I'm certainly not holding my breath for another Megaman game.

And then there's the fact that they don't want to take any risks making a game that isn't going to sell a billion copies, but that's true for every publisher.

Which is exactly my point. Capcom hasn't "Died" or "become shit", but the way they gauge the market, decide what games will/wont see the light of day has all become the subject of the almighty dollar.

C&C3 and Kane's Wrath were okay until they started going in a totally retarded way with the patches in order to balance the economy (they made refineries cost 1.5x and harvester getting killed too easy).

Red Alert 3 could've been fucking fun if it had 2x bigger maps, 3-4 more units per faction, and big ore fields to harvest instead of enclosed little mines with fixed capacity. They tried making it micro-heavy when C&C was ALWAYS about tankspam.

C&C 3 feels closer to Battle for Middle-Earth II with a Tiberian Sun style makeover than it does a proper C&C game (though I actually really like Battle for Middle-Earth). The combat feels uninspired and the upgrade system feels out-of-place, and one of the most glaring issues for me is the shitty music. Uncle Frank's tunes were always one of the highlights of the series for me (even though he kind of lost his touch after a while), and it's disappointing to here the generic background music.

Red Alert just feels like babby's first RTS. The combat feels just as bland for me, and all the tiny little water maps included are no fun to play. The emphasis on water maps in general feels like a departure from C&C standards, as does the shitty mining system. The music also sounds just as boring as C&C 3's.

Honestly, I'd rather play C&C 4 of all games than either of the other festering post-Generals turds.

it's a real shame that it is so difficult to hunt down all the bonk games if you wish to play them on original hardware... at least the first two arn't too bad...not counting the costly tg16 to play them on.

Bonk: (tg16 is best version and runs $15-30 while the gameboy version is $5 and the nes version is $300+)

Bonk's Revenge: (tg16 version is best version and runs about $15-30 but it did get a gameboy port that is also inexpensive)

Bonk's big adventure: (tg16 had both chip and cd versions but expect to really have to shell out for this one $100-300)

Super Bonk: (snes game runs about $17-50)

Hudson Selection Volume 3: Bonk's Adventure / Round 1 (Japanese import only and is a remake of the first game from what i hear, unsure of what the going price is for this. guessing $30-60)

Not entirely true. Quite a few key developers from Perfect Dark's team hung around and worked on Zero for the Xbox 360 - however, Rare had already fired one of their most competent coders at this point.

Chris Seavor hung around and worked on Bad Fur Day: Live and Reloaded, for example... then they fired him.

Rareware

for those who say they're not dead, they are, they are make software for Kinect, they're dead ;_;

Either way, the real talent of the company hopefully ends up at other companies sooner rather than later. A quick death might mean that happens quicker (and their properties might not linger as long before being acquired and revisited), so maybe that's better.

can't forget that it was because of him that Nintendo got into the toy business (and game business as an extension of that) in the first place

I picked a sqaureenix 3 years ago without knowing anything about their actual situation (nor playing any of their merged titles) like 3 years ago. It was the pc one the last whatever because I don't own any modern console.

Played it for a hour, closed it, uninstalled it and forgot about it until I saw this thread.

Square was killed long time ago. Not sure who is the culprit

And don't forget calling their steam clone origin.

That probably made someone's day.

I'm so fed up with their shit that I'm cheering for the day Bioware dies OP.

That said, Rareware. Don't try and pretend that corpse MS parades around is them, it isn't.

Square did it to themselves. Since FF7 they've wanted everything they do to be a huge production. Remember the FF movie, The Spirits Within? lol

Their handheld games are still fine because they have a template for success with them. But their home console, PC, and mobile games (All The Bravest: hahahaha) have all been garbage for years.

>Sunsoft

You are aware that these developers still exist right? Although Hudson soft is now owned by Konami and haven't produced much, and Sunsoft is still kicking it but they haven't put anything since like 2000?

I take that back Hudson soft was dissolved last year. Oh well thy they had a great run

Sunsoft made a Blaster Master remake for WiiWare in 2010 and a 3D Mahjong game for the 3DS

they aren't completely dead

Yeah, Sunsoft is like Florence Henderson. Just when you think they're dead they pop up at random to let everybody know they still exist. On a completely unrelated note, was that Blaster Master remake any good?

RIP Rare....the games they make with the exception of Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero just suck ass. Literally the new Killer Instinct looks disappointing because you need to buy the fighters (mostly).
