LOL no. It's too hard. They programmed it with autistic Japanese shut-ins in mind everyone else be damned. Even putting it on "Easy" it's too hard. What a waste.

>> No.9993207

Of course it's good. It says JVC right there.

the snes star wars games were great, snes just looks and sounds better overall than gensis too.
for some reason genesis graphics just make me angry.

nigga i was alive then, it got great reviews and everybody got the shit. it’s challenging but that’s how games were back then, if you didn’t get some challenge it’d feel like you got ripped off and the type of game it is at that time you expect it to be tough. but i knew kids who were 12 that beat this game, you just suck. keep playing. the first game is harder. jedi last level is hardest, people throw the controller at that one

>> No.9993239

Pretty good game, but I could only finish it on the lowest difficulty.

I still want prequels with a Jar Jar playable

In the real world everyone who owned this game used the cheat codes they saw in magazines to play the game. Unless you were a dumb little kid. Then tough shit, kiddo.

>LOL no. It's too hard.

Saying it wasn't well recieved because "it was too hard" is pure revisionism, pic related. In the west the harder the game is, the better recieved it was. Even if you check the "reception" category on the wikipedia page (something usually biaised and full of cherry picking because written with a modern mindset), you'll find one review complaining about the difficulty, with the others either praising it or at the minimum saying it doesn't spoil the greatness of the game

also
>They programmed it with autistic Japanese shut-ins in mind

That also is completely wrong. It's harder than "the Japanese norm" exactly because it's a western game. Like Battletoads.

Just not true.

Ya'll can eat my balls Super Empire Strikes Back being respected or loved by video game players of the time period (me) is a lie propped up by the propaganda of the time. I can beats me some hard ass games, but the Super SW games are licence-trash.

I don't remember it being a major release, I didn't know anyone who was interested in it
But it must have done well if it got a sequel

I do remember it being good though

Literally the majority of reviews had a "challenge" rating or a "length" rating which score was influenced by the game's difficulty (because unlike zoomers who look at a TAS on youtube and claim the game can be beaten in 15 mins, they'd count the time it'd get them to beat the game for the first time). Rating which in turn was part of the game's overall rating.

Some actual review quotes from the time include
>This game would score higher if it wasn't so easy!

>>9993645
it's kinda amazing how quickly that changed

Yeah with the PSX came a first wave of casualization that most people don't acknowledge (though the scale is nothing like what the Wii/DS brought).
You could still find SOME magazines in 96-98 that rated challenge as part of their review process but not many, just those clinging to the past. Interestingly, Nintendo Power was one of those.

So called "hardcore gamers" on the Xbox 360 were really where it was in full swing though. People who considered themselves trve gamers while playing easy movie games for idiots. Nobody took the Wii or DS serious as a gaming platform at the time.

The best thing about the X360 isn't beating the games, it's telling everyone online that I did

They're genuinely good games. Identical to each other, for sure, but fun to play.

This. Bought them back when they were cheap and N64 was the newest console. Empire wasn't super hard. The first few levels were a pain though.

I got Return of the Jedi in a KB Toys clearance box in 1996. Probably cost my parents 10 bucks. Played the hell out of it; one of the best games on the platform. When I finally beat that final mission I was hyped as hell.

>> No.9995689

>>9995682
It's better than just star wars on gb. Super star wars only got empire and return Gameboy ports. A new hope is a completely different thing iirc. Return of the Jedi is closest to the snes version, empire strikes back is a mediocre game at best and star wars on gb is ass but charming in a masochistic way

>> No.9995691

>Super Return of the Jedi
>Kino jabba's sand barge level with playable Leia in slave outfit with unique moves

I like Jedi more but Empire is the better game if you like playing as Luke.

Scratch that. Empire strikes back on gb is not part of super star wars, only return of the Jedi is.
