i like the idea of a hybrid game of classic camera angles with over shoulder aiming but i picture in my head how 3.5 would have worked and theres nothing stopping the breaking of immersion- always seeing whats in front of you at all times by abusing aiming

thats a great debate not even capcom was able to figure out.
for the case of the las plagas event they could have
-made leon actually act like the established character up to that point and not commit the complete identity death like they did in 4 OR create a new character with this new sarcastic personality
-have the world be intertwining like classic games instead of a linear path
-make the locations more believable. make the village more convincing with market places, maybe a primitive doctors office or a shanty school for the kids? (idk im not familiar with the european setting this game takes place in) make an actual residential castle instead of the jungle gym of railways and giant lava rooms. that only really worked for re1
-half the size of inventory, replace merchant locations with the iconic item box
-instead of a merchant introduce a new feature- the more you use a certain gun its stats will increase. no goofy super human reload speeds. find well hidden weapons
-enemies dont drop spoils. have to find ammo and conserve.
-death means something: no retries. and since the layout is closer nit like the older games finding a save point isnt unheard of
-3.5 system: classic camera angles but a hybrid aiming system-this ones tough but they would need to figure out a way to not have the player abuse over the shoulder view like mentioned >>9974364
-a better demise for umbrella. what happens IS realistic but you cant keep taunting us with the cast sorting to take down umbrella in re2,3 and veronica just to do that shit off camera within a 2 minute explanation before 4 even starts.

i even wouldnt have minded the series moving away from zombies or even going on a break. re0 to code veronica+outbreak is a good run for a series but it WAS starting to stagnate. i would have been perfectly fine with a new spin off series like what street fighter did with final fight or just a completely new ip like dead rising. give this new series a new name and occasionally have the classic resident evil come back for PROPER remakes there were still more stories to tell-chris+barry in umbrellas europe branch during re2, the death of wesker, whatever happens to billy/hunk/carlos etc.

I am in the 1st group. RE4 is a great game and to say anything to the contrary takes away from that fact so it isn't even worthy of discussion. Its only got minor flaws at best. I think professional is still too easy for one especially if you are good at the game knowing what to do. I also think some of the enemies are a bit too easy. The island imo isn't as good as the prior locations overall. Finally I guess QTE but I don't mind them all that much.

I'm not sure where I rank it again. I was saying OG RE2 then RE1 for awhile then RE4. Maybe RE4 is the best though. So might be 4 then 2 then 1.

the fundamental problem is saying that RE4 isn't a good RE game. it is. it's just as much, arguably more, of a survival horror game than the original 3. the 'survival' element is just implemented differently. classic RE is about keys and ammo, RE4 is about weapon and upgrade management. both styles task you with overcoming a series of encounters and puzzles and force you to make tradeoff decisions about what you carry and how you use it. the difference is that classic RE places priority on using inventory to solve mechanical puzzles, whereas in RE4, the enemies and environments are the puzzle. it's one thing to say that you simply prefer your RE to have less focus on action, but don't pretend that it's somehow less of a proper survival horror game just because it places greater focus on combat. try beating RE4 on professional with 0 deaths recorded on your file and tell me how it isn't survival horror.

Interesting concept, but I'm not sure it would work well with weapons that you find late game. Maybe using one weapon could also increase slightly the skill of all weapons in a category.

i agree. either the later guns would have to either have less levels to max out and the ratio of skill increase per level be greater OR you find all the guns a bit earlier to give time for mastery. also the starting handgun can be overall weaker but the game starts with partial proficiency of it

i think the idea works cause its pretty logical- the gun isnt magically getting stronger, leon is getting used to the gun and is optimizing its use.
-the bullets arent dealing more damage your handling it better and shooting vital areas easier aka more damage per shot
-the gun is shooting faster because your used to its weight
-your reloading faster because your learning the exact shape of the gun and slotting the mag in quicker without needing to look

now for capacity increase you would have to actually find the appropriate extended magazine also hidden in the world. 1 time find- 1 time permanent capacity increase.

I played CV for the first time a few years ago and was expecting it to be amazing based on the 9/10 reviews it was getting and it felt like more of a chore to play if anything. I'd rather replay Silent Hill 4 even though the 2nd half of the game is a re-run but with an escort included to piss off the player.
