For me it's Assault Suits Valken and Omega Boost.

Trying to play gungriffon blaze. Is there something wrong with the bin/cue file most sites provide for it? When i burn it on a disk my ps2 only recognizes it as a dvd video and wont play it. Tried converting to ISO first too, same result.

As it stands now, probably gotta say Zone of the Enders 2. One of the PS2 Armored Cores is probably gonna be up there by the time I get around to it (currently on Master of Arena, doing a full series run)

Many of the PSX releases you get on various ROM sites are optimized for emulator use these days. Some even come with mp3s instead of a cue/bin. Get all your PSX games from archive.org in the future.

So far Front Mission: Gun Hazard and Heavy Gear 2 are peak mecha goodness imo. Also love Starsiege, MechWarrior 2 Mercs, Armored Core (Silent Line or Last Raven), Virtual-On, and of course Assault Suit Valken.
>>9977317
It's kind of a crapshoot. You could try these repacks from plebbit. HG1s kinda baffling since HG1 did have a no-CD crack, as such you'll either need a crack or an image mounter. You may have to fiddle with dgVoodoo to get it to work with your PC on top of that. HG2 surprisingly is more out of the box then it used to be, but again you'll need to fiddle with dgVoodoo or may even need DxWnd.

There was a good repack for HG2, but I don't think it's the one from plebbit. I got it from here and it's the only one that works fine for me.
For HG1 if you get the latest version of dgvoodoo it runs just fine, the new versions of the wrapper are a massive improvement. Go on pcgamingwiki and you can even play in widescreen.

I guess that could be part of the reason. Leynos feels worse than both Valken and Metal Warriors and that was japanese developed. It's not even that Metal Warriors plays poorly, maybe it's just from how godly Valken and Gun Hazard play.

>> No.9981389

There are sequels for Valken and Leynos, if you're so interested.

Valken 2 is an SRPG for the Playstation 1. The MC from Valken (Jake Brain) joins your group near the end.
Leynos 2 is an action game for the Sega Saturn. It plays a lot like Valken, but has way more weapons. It's rather short, only 7 stages. And the final stage is just the final boss.
As a bonus, you can play as the Valken.

>> No.9981452

>>9980765
Kinda, Valken and GunHazard each area/mission are straight and to the point. Metal Warriors has a wide maze like areas where you switch between robots. All the robots have a purpose in progression and in the wrong places you will hate the robot you got. It is much more puzzle like and the story has a low emphasis. Also 1 on 1.

In my opinion they spent less time and cart space on story and character development and spent some on pvp and relatively complex levels.

I think Metal Warriors is the better of the 3 mentioned, 4 player and larger maps would have been beyond awesome.

HG2 iirc had a native linux port but that port was designed with ancient linux distros in mind, specifically old red hat I think. You could try that but it would probably be easier to use wine/proton.

Yeah, kinda hard to argue against, the other games came real close.
MW3 is far more immersive
MW4 Mercs probably has the most content of any retro MechWarrior
And MW2 Mercs is just a blast to play.
But those above games had issues like bugs, I don't see that with 31stCC.

I've had SOME success getting the windows version to run via wine/proton but it's really clunky. You need a preexisting install, 32 bit prefix and to set up the whole thing with win98 compatibility mode because otherwise it refuses to start because it fails to initialize direct x 6.1, plus something else I've forgotten to write down. But most inputs refuse to work, it crashes a ton, main menu strings are fucked. Doesn't feel too playable
The native linux port might be a better option but I'm honestly not sure how to go about it. Asgard exists but it doesn't seem to be of help, as I can't get the necessary files.
