The most interesting thing about it is that it is on the Saturn. If it were on PS1, no one would care.

pretty much. Nobody cared back then and its only popular now because of a rise in saturn youtubers

Every mediocre ps1 jrpg is labeled a hidden gem.

This game meanwhile, is 1 of a kind.

There's only 1 good PS1-era JRPG, and it's FF7. People are too obsessed with "the hidden gemmies" that don't exist.

It's a pretty cool unique game but it's so damn overpriced for multiple reasons.
>Youtubers hyping it up
>Very low production in the west (compare to how cheap JP copies are)
>Never been re-released
>Saturn emulation is shit
It may be more playable now but I'm not sure. Either way the inaccessibility of the game has driven up a lot of hype for it as this hidden gem that's very difficult to actually play in any form. A release will probably never happen because I doubt there is much demand for a decomp official or unofficial and Sega in particular was REALLY notorious for losing source code on pretty much anything pre 2000s.

mini games, sidequests, materia system.
it has plenty going for it. easy to say it's overrated, but to say there's not much there or it wasn't good is just weird.

Lots of people on this thread who clearly haven’t played this game. It’s fantastic and very unique, if anything it should have been on the Playstation so more people could have enjoyed it.

No. It means that Sega was ready to discontinue the Saturn. the game came out in 1998, and Bernie announced that: The Saturn is not our future.

That describes a lot of Saturn games in general. A lot of them are just okay imo but you'll still have fun with it. Protip, start with the first party games and Capcom games before getting into anything else.

>>9965216
Coming from someone who plays mostly Saturn's arcade ports (I rarely touch RPG's) that's long to me. I'm willing to give it a shot if I can free up enough space on my device for it. Also been planning to play the Macross game, Wolf Fang, and some of the sports titles as it's the only genre I haven't quite covered yet

It's like this series is for 'the chosen ones' or some shit. I know there's a remake of the first game on the Switch but apparently it's shit. I wish Saturn emulation was perfect

>> No.9966007

It has a very interesting combat mechanic that's aged well and the dragons are cool as shit, but the graphics are very bad even for a 1998 game, the interactions with other characters are very stiff and the game is an adventure, not an rpg.
They should've ported the game to the Dreamcast, or made a PC port like they did with Panzer Dragoon 1.

>> No.9966010

>>9966004
Panzer Dragoon 1 has a 1996 PC port which both looks better (480p) and runs better than the Saturn version + gamepad control(a bit iffy tho). It works with Win10 too.

>> No.9966014

>>9966004
Just save up some money and by an Xbox and Saturn. Xboxs with broken dvd drives are cheap and easily moddable to have all games on an hdd. Japanese Saturn's + pseudo Cart is fairly cheap too. Trust me, it's way better than emulating and what I mean is that, you're more likely to play the games if you have the og hardware. It's an experience in itself.

>> No.9966074

>>9966014
Good idea, but be weary: the common 1.6 model has issues doing a few games in 480p, and PD Orta is one of them. You can do patching on the Xbox to side step the issue, but it’s fairly involved. It’s worth the trouble though.

I think it would have been more impressive if the entire game had lacked any text at all and just shown its story through visuals and use a symbol based system for battle mechanics. Keep the fake language, but dont translate it.

I can't comment on the other Panzers, but Orta isn't what it's cracked up to be. The PD aesthetic look fucking amazing in HD and a couple music tracks are good, but the gameplay itself is stiff as shit and the boss fights could stand to be a little less long. Seriously, the bosses take 4 - 5 minutes on average and for SOME, not all, if you utilize the Dragoon Forms well you can only manage to shave it down to 3ish mins. The side content's more frustrating due to shitty gimmicks it's best you just watch them on Youtube.

I've never played it but I thought PD1 was very creative and cool. So I have to assume PDS is that but 10x cooler.
I wish I could play it. Maybe I'll finally set up a Saturn emulator. It's not ideal, but hopefully it'll be playable with no glitches.
I have to see this one for myself. It's been decades of me hearing about it
