No. What happened to the momentum? Why is flying with the cape mechanically worse than flying with the raccoon tail?
>better sprites
SMB3 NES was somehow more impressive. Better sprites than the SNES remake of 3, though.
>music
One track in the entire game. It's good, I love the castle and underwater variations on it, but come on, man.

>> No.9960498

>>9960478
>Why is flying with the cape mechanically worse than flying with the raccoon tail?
Arguable. For an example, I'll mention the football man. I can jump on the football man in slo-mo, bounce back, then I can slo-mo to land on the enemy again (who can surprisingly take more than one hit). It's a high level of -PRECISION- granted by the cape aswell as being its own flight simulator. It lends me a high degree of precision in how I can -CONTROL- the toon. The item may well be its own game.
You're also pretending you're comparing them unbiasedly and didn't notice basic stuff like the maps having more space or vertical space in general as a result.
>was somehow more impressive
It's impressive for a NES game. That doesn't somehow make it better than a SNES game. I can only assume you're blind. It also obviously has its own distinctive cartoonish style. I don't care whether you like or not that style, but you're pretending you compared the games unbiasedly and didn't notice graphics?wtf?

Donkey Kong '94
simple to understand: find the key, bring it to the door
but they keep introducing new mechanics, and give you cutscenes that explain them
also they periodically give you the "miniboss" levels that play like a classic Donkey Kong level
the difficulty curve is perfect
also all of mario's special jumps are moves you have from the start, so you can destroy the early levels on subsequent playthroughs
it's nintendo being as good as their fanboys claim

Stuff like DKC 2 / Tomba 1 / Yoshi's Island are top tier picks and were already mentioned, but for me it's pic related. Great artstyle, great music and yes, I enjoy its bullshit difficulty. Last level being locked behind 100% completion (and for that you need to get all cages, some of which appear only by activating invisible gendoors) is a fair criticism though.

the 3 vs World dichotomy is always low IQ (the answer is, both are great), but if you can't name more things about World other than the secret exits, then you are even lower IQ.
Here's a hint: controls and angles. Try throwing a koopa shell at the same variation of angles as in World in 3, can you? Also all the different amount of jumps and trajectories you can pull in World.
There's a reason why World is the game chosen by romhackers to make Kaizo stuff. The controls are the most free and with the highest skill ceiling.
World is the Melee of the SMB series.

Any GBA fiends itt who can tell me what the best platformer is there?

I played a bunch of them for five minutes each.
>Klonoa (first one)
Seems like the best one actually, it's very simple but the mechanics are neat
>Wario 4
Also good though I'm not feeling it idk
>Banjo
Second best, it's top down so it's a little different, kind of slow
>Rayman (Raving Rabbids)
This seems good but the sound is noticeably grating, much louder than other games
>Crash (the first one)
It's just Crash but worse, nothing special about it
>DKC1
Same as like Crash
>Oddworld Munch
Another top down one, this seemed like the worst, you have to be standing in very specific spots to interact with anything, it's also graphically the ugliest. I dunno I feel like it could get good

None of them are very inspiring. Playing GBA on desktop just makes it seem like a shittier 2D console

it sold poorly so it wasn't well known in era, and it has extremely good music that helps give an immediate impact of "hidden gem", it is also just a fun game

I'll mention an unmentioned title.

Aladdin is very up there among platformers, especially for a licensed game.

>countless times
Seems dubious, you could probably count them on both hands but you can't remember.
Also pwings are beating the level lol they are part of the game. Or are you going to tell me you did challenge runs because you are le epic gamerz?

My only issue with the later levels is the Valley of Bowser just being Vanilla Dome again, without the water levels to shake things up. Bowser needs his Darklands aesthetic, not the same generic underground you first encounter in Donut Plains. There's nothing final or Bowser about a cave with moles in it. At least they put lava in there once or twice.

Even thou its an NES game gimmick is such a fun and aesthetically pleasing game. Getting all the treasures is kinda ass and is a massive difficultly spike but only if you want a sadastic challenge. The music is awe inspiring especially the theme for the secret final level. Plus the remake has nice fanservice.

Far from my favorite game or platformer of all time but it has a special place in my heart.
