For me, its Snes9x

>> No.9952464

For me, it’s also snes9x as it has the settings in retroarch I want, bsneed need not apply

>> No.9952468

It's alright if you have a low-end system, but bsnes is better. Also, bsnes, unlike snes9x doesn't use a stupid non-commercial license.

Also, bsnes has the best Super Game Boy support.

>> No.9952476

bsnes has clearer audio, other than that i haven't noticed anything different. i think snes9x is more "romhack friendly", might be wrong

>> No.9952480

>>9952476
>i think snes9x is more "romhack friendly"
There are some old romhacks use specific quirks in snes9x. These romhacks don't run on original hardware, nor do they run on most emulators.

>bsnes has clearer audio
This is probably related to cubic interpolation.

>> No.9952486

>>9952459
i still like geiger's snes9x debugger the best

>> No.9952518

>>9952459
This is a fine, fine choice. Pretty much the only games that still have issues can be counted on two hands at most, and AFAIK they're all obscure and mediocre at best. bsnes does run games more accurately in regard to timings, but in most cases you'll be very hard pressed to point out the inaccuracies in this regard.
>>9952476
>>9952480
bsnes also has options that make it more old-romhack-friendly, but even so SNES9X might still be a bit better on that front. As for audio quality, they should both be identical as they both share blargg's LLE APU code. They both also have options for changing the audio interpolation method, which can indeed be used to make audio sound clearer and less muffled.

So which should you use? Either one is honestly fine. I personally prefer SNES9X through RetroArch because it plays better with Run-Ahead due to it using far less CPU cycles.

>> No.9952531

>>9952518
It also has settings in retroarch that bsnes doesn't have, although I believe they share most of those settings when comparing the standalones.

>> No.9952535

>>9952476
>bsnes has clearer audio
Yea that is the thing that has me using bsnes. That and accuracy being able to be had on what is low end hardware today. But snes9x is still great for romhacks and unusual stuff and running it on oddball hardware with less power than a microwave display, which is impressive.

Bsnes sounds nice on paper, but you'd have to be one gigantic turbo autist to notice a difference between the two and normal people won't see a difference unless it's pointed out to them by someone else.
Snes9x also makes runahead easier to do.

who commercializes an emulator? Why even bother going through the correct legal hoops if you prebundle with pirated roms anyway?

>> No.9954517

>>9954428
There are many companies selling retrogaming devices without any pirated roms. There's no reason to prevent such companies from installing your emulator on their devices.
The Genesis emulators are the worst in terms of this. Afaik the only good Genesis emulator with a free license is BlastEm, which sadly doesn't support Sega CD.

What else is there to do? It's already 100% compatible. All you could add to it is more non-accuracy-focused features, and several people have done just that. Byuu, for all intents and purposes, had already finished his work, which is why he started branching out into other systems with higan and later with ares, and the latter is very much alive still.

It's funny hearing people talk about Snes9x being "faster." To someone who was there in the glory days of Zophar's Domain, Snes9x was the theoretically better emulator that only your spoiled friend with a rich dad could afford the PC needed to get full frame rate. Normal people ran ZSNES. In DOS, with 8-bit colors and the transparency layers turned off.
