>Paying $100 for a game that is $20 on ps2
>Paying $100 for a game that is $20 on a Japanese Gamecube
>Paying $100 for a game that is notoriously unplayable with the American NTSC release because it was tuned to make your car feel like it's driving through mud
Are Gamecube collectors fucking retarded? Or is it just collectors in general? Thousands of people buying a game just because it's Cel-Shaded just to play it for 20 minutes and put it back on the shelf.

Buying physical retro games is fucking over. You’re out there competing on the market with millions of wealthy tech bro man children hoarders who are willing to spend $60 on a scratched, disc-only copy of any first party Nintendo gamecube game. Just hack your console and play ROMs, emulate, or wait for FPGA. It’s over.

There's no fun in collecting Nintendo unless you just want "finished" sets. Games you aren't going to play but look at. Behold, my shelf full of every Madden, Fifa, Tiger Woods Gamecube game...no I have not played any of them, but they have the health advisory sheet in every. single. one. That brings up the value by about $2 per game!!

No. Nintendo console collection is appealing because it's such a known-quantity territory. The expensive games are established, it's all documented and ran thru and easy to get into. Oh there's 200 N64 games in the US? Easy win, even if some are a little pricy it's easy to nail them down - they aren't particularly rare - you'll always find sculptors cut for sale. Star Blade Alpha? Yeah I don't think one has been available for months. Oh but it's a fraction of the price of clay fighter.

The expensive games are rarely good. It usually stems back from some shitty nintendo power article that was quoted and spread around gameFAGs 20 years ago. "bro gotcha force is s00000 R@R3!!! L@@K!!!!" nah. Want to know why it's uncommon? Why nobody talks about the gameplay? Cuz its a $700 game that looks worse than N64 games. And it's boring and piss easy too. You collect it cuz you want an easy to finish full set.

Collecting without playing is a pointless endeavor. You'll have more fun digging thru a bin of genesis and ps1 and 2 games with a stack worth $100 than you will with the 1 mid-tier n64 game that'll net you.

This is the mindset of collectors in general, OP. When you get into it with them they devolve into flinging shit at you like the monkeys they are. Most of them have "invested" hundreds of dollars into building a glorified landfill in their living rooms, or basements, for the handful of them who have wives/girlfriends. To admit they dropped that much money on a landfill would cause them to implode.

Honestly those sports games hold value to me even though I'm not a fan because they display incremental improvements across multiple systems and some of them are released even after a console has "died". Like those LATE PS1 sports games. I would be interested in seeing if they implemented any neat tricks using PS1 hardware that late into its lifespan. Not that I have any interest in games filled with over 9000 generic black dudes and frankenstein looking white guys.

Konami sports games, Sega sports games, even some of the Sony and Nintendo and Microsoft made sports games. There's still golffags I talk to that swear to the end of the earth Links 2004 is the greatest golf game of all time, exclusive to the xbox. I'm sure it has its merit. On the flipside some of those EA sports games on Gamecube actually have neat bonuses. I think it's one of the fight night games it has the option to play super punchout in it, not a great way to play but a novelty.

when are you faggots going to learn? build or buy a PC. that's it. you just pay a few hundred bucks and get a modest machine that can play any game from any old console on top of having several hundred thousand games of its own; all on demand, all free, all with the best graphics and controls... and it'll last you forever with proper maintenance. it's literally that simple, but you just aren't satisfied, are you? you spend thousands on old pieces of plastic to capture some fleeting feeling of youth or happiness. you make excuses about how it's too hard on your poor wittle wrist to tighten a screw or how that massive, hulking monolith of a computer simply cannot fit anywhere (because your CRT, 6 consoles, 7 handhelds and 200 games are already taking up the space). you claim to be "true" enthusiasts, "true" hobbyists for owning old things; yet you won't put the effort into learning about the technology you espouse knowledge of, taking the most hedonistic approach to enjoying the passtime while neglecting the best way to play and preserve the games therein. if you actually cared about games, you'd care about playing them. instead, you care about oogling at them as they slowly deteriorate along with your hopes and dreams.

Yes

>Thousands of people buying a game just because it's Cel-Shaded just to play it for 20 minutes and put it back on the shelf.
These NTSC-U gamecube prices have barely anything to do with the actual games in question, it's just doublefucked from a combination of the Nintendo-branded price hike as well as the gamecube being seen as the "odd one out" for its generation, leading to the misconception that its games didn't have a gorillion of each title printed out on shiny coasters like PS2/Xbox games were. It's like the Earthbound Fallacy.

The craziest part is that wii games are still pretty cheap. Gamecube is totally backwards, the console itself is worth less than the controllers and cords, and the games are expensive.
Meanwhile Wii does it all, just need a real controller for it.

People who collect for the sake of collecting (read: mental illness) and not because they want physical copies of their favorite games are retarded.
The ones who aren't actually hoarders and just collect because they think they can flip it for more money are worse though. They're too stupid to learn how to trade stocks even though it is currently the most accessible it has ever been.

dont (you) me but Gamecube is the coolest 6th gen console to collect, and one of the coolest to collect for:
>beautiful mini discs
>sleek high quality plastic cases
>vibrant, covers, manuals and inserts
>gamecube y2k-ish branding
>Nintendo going full Playstation(tm)
>very underplayed platform
>so, uncanny... yet familiar (mario et al)
>easy to wow normies with it
>library isn't that big...
>...yet has a bit of everything

I started collecting around 2010, games used to be like 20/25 dollars, a few 40, and every year found one or two lots for pennies to push the collection further. I have many systems I love, but GC is sure the most aesthetically pleasing for me

It's a nifty little device. I've always been fascinated by its many connectivity features and weird accessories. Also has the best version of RE4 and some great stuff like F-Zero GX. If I could choose any 6th gen console with as many games as I wanted, it would probably be GCN.

for a variety of reasons GC was an underplayed platform, so playing through its library feels like entering an alternate gaming dimension, but on the other hand you got classic franchises like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Resident Evil

>>9952212
I think I get what you mean. SSBM is always the most played, after it the ones I gave long passionate hours were Mario Sunshine, Mario TTYD and Spikers Beach Volley, but for the rest I enjoyed more the GC vibe during a playthrough than the games themselves

>>9952608
I'm ashamed to say I fumbled to get a RE4 Collectors Edition once around 2014 and never ever came across ANY RE4 for a reasonable price. F-Zero GX must be GC top 3, I love it, but it takes a lot to git gud at it
