The cloth maps for these games were so kino. Loved my Ultima III and IV maps.

Here's something that keeps blowing my mind: You know that Steve1989MRE guy, who eats all the military rations? He's got this map of Okinawa hanging on his door. It kind of looks like cloth, and the font for "Okinawa" is very similar to the Ultima font. What's the deal here?? Did Garriott base his map design off some classic Okinawa map? Or did the Ultima maps come first, and this map was done as a nostalgic reference?

The Black Gate's cloth map feels like crayon and colored pencil wax and seemed very high quality to me. The Serpent Isle's has its map feel like part of the material. However, the one they gave out for free with Final Fantasy 8 is really cheap, they aren't even consistently square and very thin material. I suspect the FF8 freebie was made from the scraps of some textile company.
