My favorite one, there's a sequel called Separation Anxiety that isn't as good, but has god tier music

What about Batman, bros? I'm starting with the NES game. It's based on Tim Burton's Batman, right?

Not SNES/Sega, but does anyone know which version of 2002 Spider-Man is the best? I'm running the PC version right now.

Aside from the cutscenes it barely has anything to do with the movie. The Mega Drive version is closer in that regard. It's not as good but the music is god tier.

Maximum Carnage is a decent, maybe even underrated beat-em-up. No two player though. Some people like Spiderman Vs. Kingpin.

For Batman...Batman Returns for the SNES is excellent and the NES one isn't bad either. Adventures of Batman and Robin for the SNES is a great Konami action games and the Genesis version is an insane tech demo. It's borderline kusoge but I have a soft spot for Batman Forever.

I've heard that GB had an excellent spider-man game, I think it was the carnage one

>I've heard that GB had an excellent spider-man game, I think it was the carnage one

The two that I remember playing the most was the first Amazing Spider-Man for the GameBoy, that was published by LJN and developed by Rare. I kinda liked it too. I didn't think it was a bad game. The music is really catchy:

There were also two follow up sequels for the OG GB made by B.I.T.S.. I remember playing the second one on real hardware, and not caring for it much. But it did have some catchy music. Never played the third game.

One game that I remember playing a lot for the Genesis was Spider-Man VS The Kingpin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf2NfoD0XQY

the game looks like it was built from the same template as Moonwalker, and potentially Revenge of Shinobi. The game came out in 1991, but felt like a 1990 release. I do like the gameplay, and ability to earn money via using Peter Parker's camera. The game is a little rigid. But it's a title that I legitimately like. The name for this game was always a bit confusing,as on the box it would just be called "Spider-Man", even though the title screen would clearly say "Spider-Man vs The Kingpin". The Sega CD game is The Amazing Spider-Man vs The Kingpin.

https://youtu.be/uf2NfoD0XQY

Never really put much time into the Sega CD version.

There's background tiles in Spider-Man vs The kingpin that look like they were ripped right out of Revenge of Shinobi and recoloured. But I think Sega allowed the Revenge of Shinobi game engine to be used as a template for other tiles like Michael Jackson's Moonwalker and Spider-Man vs The Kingpin. Ofcourse Spider-Man was an enemy in Revenge of Shinobi. Officially licensed too for some versions.

Maximum Carnage has a great variety of useful moves in the game too. I rarely feel like spamming something in the game is ideal because the enemies are so punishing that you need to constantly find ways to clear space and keep moving.

The soundtrack is a bit weird with Mr. Big frontman singing the lead song. But otherwise, it's really good. The naming for the Genesis and Sega CD games are a bit messed up. As said above, the Genesis game was only called "Spider-Man" on the box, but the game screen calls it Spider-Man vs The Kingpin. The Sega CD game says The Amazing Spider-Man vs Kingpin on the box over, but called Spider-Man vs Kingpin in the game. The Sega CD game is based on the Genesis/ MD game, but has more open gameplay and more levels. There was also a GameGear port published by Flying Edge (Acclaim):

I played the SNES Maximum Carnage repeatedly until I could 1CC it and had a great time. Never read any comics before that, Carnage or otherwise. The game does a good enough job of telling you who's who and what's what in the main story. There are lots of cameos in it though, and you won't learn much of anything about the many minor supporting heroes and villains unless you do some background work.

>Which Sega/SNES/etc Spider-Man games would you recommend?
I love this idea for a thread! As much as I love Spider-Man (2000/PS1) I feel that most people have the perception that anything before just isn't worth it, either because they were poorly made or just because they weren't 3D, but that's really unfair with a lot of the great installments we did get! Well then, before getting to the actually retro stuff I'm going to cheat a bit, and go for titles that came out alongside Spider-Man (2000/PS1) and after it, and that's the GBC adaptation, which I think it's mediocre, but can see why some would love it, and it's sequels on both the GBC and GBA, which I find to be genuinely excellent 2D installments. Now, for truly retro stuff, there are 8bit installments I enjoy, which are The Amazing Spider-Man (1990/GB) and Return of the Sinister Six (1992/NES), also can't recommend Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin (1991/MD) enough, alongside it's SEGA-CD remake... just avoid the 8bit SEGA stuff...

Well, the game isn't THAT bad. As a kid, I was impressed by how you can actually crawl walls and web swing between buildings lol (suprisingly, not every Spider-Man game offers that).

It's just really... weird, I guess? Like, in everything from music to backgrounds.
You're probably right and it started as some kind of fantasy horror game. Some enemies look like straight monster-ish.

Well, maybe you're right, but it was the 1st Spider-Man video game I've ever played, as a kid on my PolyStation, a clone of the NES that looked just like a PlayStation, but took cartridges to play, and the Spider-Man one was my absolute favorite, though I struggled getting past the 2nd level, and back then never got past the 3rd... I did come back to it as an adult still, without as much bias, and I still enjoy it for what it is, while I do admit Spider-Man's controls aren't the best, they work fine once you're used to them, and when that happens you eventually appreciate things like the enemies exploding when defeated, satisfying sound effects, and genuinely decent level design, especially on the 1st half of the adventure... I wish we had more of this really. I do think it could've started as something else, like the reply above mine pointed out, it sometimes feels like a horror title due to some of the enemies, especially on Mysterio's level and also on Hobgoblin's level. I enjoy the OST, even though only having 2 tracks is a bummer, and find the somewhat chibi graphics charming, also has some moody atmosphere I appreciate a lot.

i personally blame the spider-man 2 movie game for that since it was the first open world spider-man game and the one everyone treats as a gold standard despite having pretty much the exact same flaws that later open world spider-man games have.

as far as 3D spidey games go i prefer USM, TASM2 & shattered dimensions.

PS1 Spiderman, though nostalgia is somewhat speaking for me when it comes to the gameplay. The game is pretty well written for what it is and has a lot of charm.
