I'm trying to play through all the main Zeldas I haven't played yet. This game is boring the shit out of me and I'm only halfway through it. Next up would be Ocarina of Time, is it more of the same? This series has been boring me for a bit despite all the praise. is it one of those you have to play as a kid or it won't mean anything to you?

If you find the series boring, why do you keep playing? What if it's just not for you?

Didn't ask. Either play the games or don't and shit the hell up.

Also,
>is it one of those you have to play as a kid or it won't mean anything to you?
I first played it 6 months ago and I loved it. Again, if you don't like it, it's probably just not for you.

I find alttp to be extremely bland and basic compared to oot.

>> No.9941617

get yourself a 3DS to play through those. it's one of those play it off and on games in a convient way to enjoy it. emulating shit at 4k on a beefy rig robs you of an experience that's genuinely satisfying.

just jump straight to OOT. the snes zelda obsession is just autistic babies, its boring and confusing as shit but they played the snes one first and they dont like being mogged

Link's Awakening on the Gameboy is the real quintessential 2D Zelda, LTTP was just a prototype

Yes. People obsessed with Zelda like to argue about which one is the "best", but the games are all fundamentally the same - fight monsters and solve puzzles in various dungeons, collecting items that gradually open up more of the world to explore. The games get easier and nicer looking with each iteration. They are aimed at boys who have just grown out of their Mario phase.
>This game is boring the shit out of me and I'm only halfway through it.
>This series has been boring me for a bit despite all the praise.
Sounds like it's time to try something else. My rule is: don't plan on completing an entire series unless you love the first one.

Then don't play it zoomer.
Leave the good games for the good people to play.

Here's a tip anon:
Don't post a screenshot of Link's Awakening DX here. Only the original version is allowed.

>is it one of those you have to play as a kid or it won't mean anything to you?
I certainly felt that way when I got around to playing it during my late teen years, having played OoT and LA before it. It really feels like I had to have played it at the time to feel as strongly as I do about OoT, which, to be fair, is probably much the same in many respects. And it's not even that it's old - I played the original Zelda even later, and I love that game and have played through it numerous times. I think it comes down to the fact that ALttP was basically the template that most of the console Zelda games after it took after, so it's like I'm playing an earlier version of those games rather than something unique, which I feel the first game still is in many ways. Same with Zelda II, for that matter.

no, i'm not the same guy
this post however summarizes my point of view prett well >>9942221
it feels like the template of the zeldas that followed but it lacks something to truly make it stand out, so in that way it feels really basic
i did play and beat it but at points it felt like i was doing it out of duty than to actually enjoy it
Zelda 1 still has charm due to how primitive it is and how you cant autopilot through the combat, but ALTTP being the first "modern" Zelda game is already easy and handholdy
its a competently made game for sure, it just lacks something that makes it playing it actually engaging

I own both and prefer DX. I've had the original since the dmg01 days and once I played the DX I could never go back. It's a shame about the unskippable "oof this is heavy" stuff though.

Okay, but what does LA have that ALttP doesn't (in terms of gameplay)?
Sure, there's jumping, but it doesn't really add much to the game (it's not useful in combat, and the only thing it does is restrict you from going to certain places at the beginning of the game). Jumping could have been a much more interesting mechanic: since you can jump on goombas in the side-scrolling stages, what if you could jump on other enemies to stun them or something? Or, since you can jump down from ledges, why not use the feather item to get back up (for balance reasons it would have to use magic power, which isn't in LA, but let's pretend it is)?

In terms of gameplay, LA just doesn't feel as creative to me as ALttP. There are hardly any combat options, there aren't many secret things to find in the overworld, etc.

ALttP has a lot more depth. Of the Zelda games that have two worlds, ALttP does it the best: you can warp from the Dark World to the Light World from anywhere, and this mechanic allowed for some interesting world design, with lots of secret parts of the Light World that are only accessible from the Dark World.

The only aspect in which LA beats ALttP is the story. It's well done, but I just don't feel that the story alone makes LA better than ALttP.

Ocarina is one of the few things normalfags are right about, it's a masterpiece unlike shit like Chrono Trigger or FFVII. Majora's Mask is up there too.
