I can respect it. I'd put X8 between X6 and X7, but I put it down to appreciating the sheer audacity Capcom had by letting X6 ship and also me being burnt out by the time I reached X8 because I played the entire series in order one after the other. One day I'll give it another try.

Yes

X1
>the standard

X2
>more collectibles
>better replay value

X3
>best intro stage, playing as Zero with his theme kicking is untopped
>just more X2 with some goodies and some awesome moments
>tons of collectibles
>even better replay value

X4
>a bit of a backslide in terms of mechanics but still pretty good, can't be helped as this was the transition to PS1 on a new engine
>less collectibles
>can play as Zero for the entire playthrough instead of just as a gimmick though
>fully voiced animated cutscenes which is a huge plus

X5
>lost some budget so no animated cutscenes and less voice acting sadly
>but you can pick between X and Zero at any time
>X can keep his armor from X4
>a lot of replay value with multiple "routes"
>awesome final boss, my personal favorite in the series

X6
>confusing and frustrating at first but once you figure out what's going on it becomes really fun
>multiple routes
>really hard which is a nice last hoorah for the series, if this is your sixth X game you better be good by now
>the most replay value out of any X game

What don't you like about X3? For X6 I can understand just hating being confused and needing to play through multiple times to understand what's going on, but what is the problem with X3 to where someone would rate it lower than fucking X8?

X8 is pretty awful imo. The levels generally suck and the movement/controls feel pretty horrendous in comparison to everything that came before it (except for X7, of course). I'd place it below X6. Outside of that, I agree with this ranking.

X2 is just as good as 1, even better in some aspects (more creative levels, you can get all the upgrades without revisits), so if it isn't in your top 3, you're wrong. The only legitimate flaw is not having a different ending if you get all Zero parts.

X4 is the best "complete package" in terms of gameplay, graphics, aesthetic, and music.
X3 is the best "secret extra stuff" game since it's balanced in other categories.
X7 and X8 are unforgivable.
X is just kind of mediocre IMO; played it too many times and it just seems too easy.
X2 is slightly better than X but I prefer X3.
X6 is the worst PSX game but leagues better than 7 and 8.

I'm never going to understand what the fuck is with this gaslighting campaign on here and even /v/ with X3 somehow being this awful game.

For those who aren't trolls. There is a reason why the HD collection got split into two parts and why parts 1-4 are seen as the much better half of the collection. The real truth is after X4 this series really started to fall apart with each successive game getting worse until X8 since X7 was so bad you could only possibly go up from that piece of garbage game.

My ranking:
X4 > X3 > X1 > X2 > X5 > X6 > X8 > X7

Really though any ranking that puts 1-4 above the other half is absolutely fine by me.

It feels like the game was rushed out the door, we also know that Capcom outsourced most of the work to Minakuchi Engineering and not the main devs who worked on X1 and X2. The Saturn version somehow manages to be worse with borders around everything and very long load times for a 2D game, though I commend its usage of FMV cutscenes before X4.

Some people also really hate the SNES soundtrack as it moves from metal to grunge with almost nothing but guitars, I like it though.

>> No.9946013

> outsourced

Like that means anything in regards to quality. It was "outsourced" to the people who made MMV GB, a game which influenced the main series in several ways. Meanwhile what do we get when it's not "outsourced" ? X5.

To add to this:

>The soundtrack is absolute garbage to my ears, some of it sounds like a parody of video game music
>The enemy respawn scroll threshold is insanely, we are talking NES Ninja Gaiden levels here.
>One of the more common enemies is that red robot with two spiked balls whose hitbox is shaped in a way that charge shots will just bounce off it. Really stupid.
>Very expensive in it's day due to the stupid add-on chip (meant to deter piracy?)

At the end of it's day it's still a Mega Man game so it's better than a solid 80 percent of games out there but I would consider it one of the less X titles.

This was during Capcom's edgy heavy phase but I always liked the soundtrack.
Now that you mention it, I do seem to remember the respawn rate being pretty bad and the spiked ball enemies being annoying (but not as annoying as the missile launching enemies in 4 that always block your shots).
I still think it's a great X title though, and better than anything after it, including 4.

If they're going to give X a gimped Z-saber then they might as well not give him one at all. This applies to all X games of course. Same with Zero's bullshit weak buster shot.

There's nothing wrong with Zero being a fundamentally better character than X before X's upgrades.

That's not a bad idea in theory, since the beginning of X3 is pretty rough with enemies dealing way too much damage. The problem is that the game doesn't let you use Zero where you really need it, against bosses. A really dumb fuckup.
