In the US there are none, it's why the ESRB exists. The ESRB is a private organization formed so that the games industry could police itself like the MPAA did for movies with their rating system. The government doesn't have to make decency laws for video games because game publishers voluntarily submit their games to the ESRB for rating and retailers generally agree (also of their own volition) to only stock games that have ESRB ratings. When offensive content is cut from an old video game in the US it's not to satisfy any legal requirement, it's voluntary self-censorship because whoever currently publishes the game finds it to be too offensive.

Half of “gamers” barely know how to use a pc anyways, and >>9943304 is right that pirates actually end up purchasing more. Most zoomers I’ve talked to don’t even know what a torrent is, and most millennials give the evil eye bc you’re “stealing from aRtiSts.” The real impetus to piracy was record producers forcing people to spend $20 for only 2-3 good songs per cd. That said, I really like gog and have paid them for games they’ve spent a lot of resources on to make them operable again—they’re doing all that and without the shackles steam puts on your purchases, too.
