What are some "quirky"/unique games that are actually good?

Games like
>Gitaroo Man
>Parappa 1, 2, UJL
> Katamari Damacy, We Love Katamari
>PangYa Golf
>No One Can Stop Mr Domino
>Elite Beat Agents, OSU!, OSU 2
>WarioWare series
>Nights into Dreams
>Elebits/Eledees

There's a lot of lists but sometimes I find people just list games that are unique for the sake of it and the games are actually shit. Also I find a lot of the good ones are concentrated around PSX, PS2, DS and Wii, probably because these systems just have so many games compared to other systems.

Just this one. Jrpg games are untranslated lol.

There's also manga and anime which this series is based on, but I haven't checked it out as well, it's some weird kodomo that was cross-promoted in Saru Getchu anime series.
By the way, Ape Escape has plenty of quirk.

Also try Hachiemon, it's a quacky action game starring some Japanese TV mascot. Plays a bit like Sonic at times but with some crazy shit going on

It's an older game, but I really enjoyed Magical * Taruruuto-kun on Genesis. Maybe not quite as "wacky" as the others but still worth checking out. I feel Jet Set Radio and Drill Dozer also scale the periphery of this style. Maybe Samba De Amigo and Space Channel 5 as well. I want to mention the LocoRoco series on PSP though it's technically not retro yet.

Gekisha Boy (Gekibo)

Really bizarre PC Engine....shooter? Where you play as a photographer tasked with taking weird and interesting pictures. Really funny with a Japanese game indulging in lots of stereotypical portrayals of Americans.

Please play moon rpg! Originally made in 96 for PS1, It's made by the same people who made chulip, another really good one for ps2. It's one of the best games ive ever played. Soundtrack is wonderful, storyline is amazing, been trying to get people to play it for years!! It got a remaster in 2020, so it's on steam/switch now. Would love to see more people appreciating that masterpiece!! :)

He is not wrong Indies are trying to chase trends too much on the Roguelike Deckbuilder genre now after trying in Platformers instead of having variety in their approach like scrolling shooters, tactical rpgs, puzzle droppers(Tetris attack), or something off the wall like Kula World etc etc in the west we are missing variety very badly. But I do think there does exists some diamond in the rough for retro like games at least with Forza Polpo which is a Jumping Flash type of game. It's just they are few and between nowadays.

I can not believe nobody remembers this. It was one of the last good titles on Dreamcast. Sure it may not be as beautiful as Space Channel 5 or Samba De Amigo but it really has really clever puzzles and the whole point was getting high which is as funny as it looks.

This, westaboo fags on here sneed when you point out that indies aren’t nearly as diverse as they claim they are, no another pixelated deck building roguelike survival voxel based early access game isn’t quirky or different, stay mad that Japan at least *used* to try some very different stuff but California by the numbers indieslop will never have the same level of interesting gameplay or artistic direction.

I don't think Klonoa is a bad game, but it's pretty overrated. Gameplay is nothing special, and no one would give a fuck about the story if it weren't for the asspull plot twist at the end.
