If you didn't get all the platinum relics you did not beat crash 3

The platinums are just so much harder than the golds

the PAL artwork (also used for JP region) is the superior.

It wasn't used for the JP release though, famously in fact as the cutified Japanese Crash is a well-known localization artifact.

Also the PAL version artwork is ok but a bit condescending. It tried to reframe the greaser culture-themed levels of Warped as a Terminator 2 reference (FIVE YEARS after T2) because they thought that would be a more accessible reference for European audiences.

I remember making it back in the day, but I tried again recently and honestly Platinum relics in some instances are beyond mere mastery of core mechanics, and more about literally memorizing the individual stages. That's not "getting good", it's just forfeiting the value of your time.

>> No.9908743

the platinums aren't that hard honestly I only go for golds because I like doing the time trials without the crash dash.

the only levels that are really hard to get platinums on are the all the really cycle-heavy levels like the scuba levels, arabian rooftop levels, and the water pyramid level. The plane levels are hard too I guess but that's just because they're RNG bullshit.

Is it normal to see challenges like that as arbitrary, especially when you get older? I think 99% of people don't see any point in completing challenges like that without some reward like cosmetics or something. And don't give the template shitpost answer because of speedruning, I mean in general.

Yeah I remember when my buddy and I unlocked them it was like how the hell are you supposed to beat those times? But we kept playing and started beating them and it was really fun. That game was excellent.

Yes. Say anything you want about achievements, but an achievement for getting all platinum relics instead of gold would be enough to entice some people to go the extra mile. It certainly did for me with Crash 4. That game has arguably the worst 100% journey of any game I've ever seen but getting a permanent 100% stamp besides the in game savefile was the final push needed for me to complete it.
I've 100% the Crash trilogy more than once but never bothered with platinum trials, because why would I? There's not a single thing the game does to acknowledge you did it.

>Crash 4
I don't blame you with that one because I started to see the writing on the wall after some time with 1 or 2 VHS Tape challenges, then got tired of the game and lost interest. I didn't know just how fucking a-TROCIOUS it'd get later on until watching some no-name on Youtube breakdown how insane it all is -- it's devilishly masochistic.

The relics were hands down the worst part of Warped, it doesn't even feel like a proper sequel, if anything it feels more like a tech demo for CTR and Bash.

>>9908686
>famously in fact as the cutified Japanese Crash is a well-known localization artifact
They did something similar for the Oddworld games, played up the slapstick comedy and kept the gore and depressing environments off the boxart. Oddysee is called Abe a Go Go. :/

>>9909471
Also wanted to add while stirring more on-topic, I just never had much fun trying to get the highest rank in challenges similar to how Crash does it, because it become less skill-based and more a process of automation with every movement needing to practically pixel perfect it's becomes frustrating. I can understand feeling the rush after hitting the finish line, but several more times and failures after that, it loses it's luster.
Also while ND stayed true to that concept yet it still being frustrating bullshit, Jak 2 and 3's challenges were just as difficult, but at least you got rewards which lead to cheats and such regardless after passing the default score/time.

Man, this game was so fucking stylish. I guess it's the electricity motif. It looks sick. Tekken3 has it too and of course it's the sickest fucking game on the PS1
Both these games ARE the PS1, imo.
Modern games need to get back to sick electric effects

It's far more likely to be that the combination of the greaser look from the bike levels and the game's time travel concept to enable a Terminator reference.
Also, why on earth would Terminator somehow be a more accessible reference for yuros than americans, and what is it about the NTSC cover which they wouldn't get? Your reasoning doesn't make any sense.

The opposite. As a kid I didn't give a single shit about 100%, once the credits rolled I beat the game. Only as an adult I started bothering with extra challenges, if they're worth my time.

you do realise the base game has plenty of Terminator references? the secret warp room run by "Neo-Cor" systems, the warp balls looking exactly like the time travel effect in the Terminator movies, and the fact that the Lab Assistants are revealed to be robot skeletons with an exterior human disguise sent back in time. I wouldn't be surprised if the greaser outfit in the motorbike levels was always meant to double as a Terminator reference

Hot Coco isn't that hard, it's just different since it's more about experimentation than optimizing your movement. I'd rather do PAL Hot Coco any day over a level like Flaming Passion or Tomb Wader.

People appreciate it because the moralfagging isn't the focus of the game. Shame they went back on that for Soulstorm, which ironically has the least soul of the entire series.

the PAL version does a much better job of conveying what the game is about; time travel. Plus Crash's pose riding the bike has more energy than just standing still grinning while a t-rex gurns in the background
