HUH?!

>> No.9908139

this was so confusing to me as a kid, none of these people are acting at all how I thought they would with a giant moon towering above them

Unironically the best dialogue in the game. Yeah, Romani getting drunk to sleep through death is great, but I love the politics here.

I hadn't realized the mask over the mayor's chair seems like an alternate design to one of the masks the HMS carries attached to his bag; I always thought it was simply the same texture reused. So they actually made a point of putting it there and giving it a texture used nowhere else in the game.

This is is the sort of innocent thing Nintendo did so casually that kickstarted a million lore autisms.

I've never finished MM because I found the dungeons more tedious than OOT and the whole timer shit puts me off

MM is one of those games that either click for you big time or doesn't at all and never will. Which is weird for a huge mainstream franchise that at that point was at its highest peak in popularity yet and commercial expectations should have been too brutal to allow for such a quirky "cult" game.

It's also the only difficult 3D Zelda so your regular nintoddler gets a whiplash

You thought this was bullshit, but just look at people's reactions to the recent corona panic and you'll understand that Majora's Mask got it right.

MM would have been just as kino without it being a Zelda game. Strange, if you think about it.

It made 0 sense to me until i saw it IRL later in life.
It genuinely captures the moment it presents. It would not surprise me one bit if its a recreation of a Japanese town hall meeting, a meeting with a official for paperwork, or even a Nintendo JP event devolving into that bullshit of commerce.

MM is not a bit more difficult than OoT, unless you call the time mechanic difficult, in which case I must call you a brainlet, because you are one.

>> No.9908615

>>9908440
The zelda baggage does feel forced and the reused (even if some are touched up) assets only cheapen the experience by making it less unique.

>> No.9908623

>>9908423
It shouldn't be strange. I wish more highly popular franchises got entries that made a point of being good on their own terms instead of piggybacking on borrowed momentum.

You're certainly entitled to your take. A different one would be finding an appeal in meeting familiar faces and elements in new contexts that both inform how you'll relate to them and reframe your memories of the originals.

And in a less subjective and more practical sense: reusing assets actually made the game POSSIBLE to begin with. Not only in the sense that the tight development time would have meant a much more limited finished product if tackled from scratch (or no product at all as it may have been straight out impossible to build something from scratch something on the scale of the original for a system that was rapidly running out of time), but also in the sense that the smaller team was definitely a key factor in creating a project that feels very personal and unique.

Creative "freedom" is overrated. More often than not the best catalyst for great art is commercial and logistical constraints.

>>9908613
I only call it difficult in relation to others, and yes, it is a lot more challenging out of the gate compared to OOT flooding you with tutorial dungeons for half of the game

>> No.9908676

>>9908658
I really don't see anything of value by using the same art for tweaked assets recycled into a new game. Break them down to their fundamentals and do something new with it instead. Imagine of instead there wasn't 40 Zelda games, but 40 unique adventures.
"But I'll never see the characters again"
You already don't.

>Imagine of instead there wasn't 40 Zelda games, but 40 unique adventures.
Okay, I imagined it. Absolutely nothing changes since the gameplay and general sorties stay the same.

Well then his point is terribly presented because in the game the moon will actually fall and the naysayers are the stupid ones. Still, fair enough.

>> No.9908714

>>9908676
It's about context and juxtaposition, though in MM it feels like it's there to justify the reuse of assets rather than it being the point.

>Creative "freedom" is overrated. More often than not the best catalyst for great art is commercial and logistical constraints.
Correct. In the end it's always a delicate balance, but in general having constraints will help focus the ideas within them.
