GUN better

I love it. Definitely rough around the edges in some aspects, but there wasnt really a blueprint to build off of at that time. If you play through the prototype youll see Capcom didnt even have a game yet, just some concepts and a few interesting character designs. Rockstar really had to put it all together quickly.

I always wished someone made a rival to Redemption like they did with Saints Row for GTA, but more lighthearted like Revolver.

I loved the control scheme in this game, and getting headshots felt so fucking satisfying. I wish I’d gotten a chance to play the multiplayer with someone, having like 50 different characters to choose from seemed novel at the time.

not to mention GE, PD, TS1, Quake 2, Quake 3, Unreal and basically every other shooter. if anything having tons of characters was the rule and not the exception.

Yeah if I end up having any interest at some point there’s nothing stopping me. Can’t say I have any interest right now, though. Just chimed in to reminisce on how much I enjoyed RDR.

>Angel Studios began working on Red Dead Revolver under the oversight and funding of Japanese video game publisher Capcom in 2000.[4][5] The project stemmed from Angel Studios and Capcom's partnership on the Resident Evil 2 port for the Nintendo 64. Capcom's Yoshiki Okamoto then approached Angel Studios with the idea for an original intellectual property entitled S.W.A.T. It later adopted a Western theme at Okamoto's recommendation, redefining the acronym as "Spaghetti Western Action Team". It is reported that inspiration for that came from Okamoto — who had previously worked on Capcom's 1985 arcade shoot 'em up Gun.Smoke — upon viewing the movie Blindman.[6] Artist Akira Yasuda, also known as Akiman, moved to United States to work on Red Dead Revolver's character design.[7]
This is unironically a crazy story. The entire Red Dead series started as a spiritual sequel to Capcom's Gun Smoke and it's by the same devs who did the impossible, ported RE2 to the N64

Facts

I love western games and played GUN as a kid and had it in my mind as this GOAT but I replayed it last year and honestly I Raye it very low now. I think Call of Jaurez has better gameplay and a better story.

yeah well you're wrong and your first instinct was correct. CoJ is wack shit.

>> No.9904198

>>9904154
Nah, the story in GUN is really stupid and basically on fast forward. The boss fight are terrible and despite being a short game still manages to have filler. The guns all feel similar and the is pretty much no variation in gameplay. CoJ has a plot that makes sense, good level design, varied weapons and two different characters to play as. No moment in GUN will ever surpass being able to dual wield a revolver and a bible.

Reminder that the Capcom "version" was supposed to have a Zuntata soundtrack in top of the licensed western music tracks.

I never beat it because without fail my savefile on the memory card would corrupt whenever I got to a certain level in the game and decided to stop playing for the day, I imagine if I powered through and beat that level I would get past the point which was corrupting my savegame. Is this a known bug with the game (PS2 PAL)?

Everything about GUN is superior to Revolver. The gameplay, the story, the graphics, everything.
