It's a good game and I enjoyed it a lot but it's no "super mario world 2" and I would rather had a proper super mario 5 at the end of snes life than this.

Nintendo pushing Yoshi so hard during the era was also weird, like look at green barney then at sonic, what the fuck? He is the opposite of cool

This game is god teir whats with all the uncultured swine on vr whining about this shit? Sounds like a fucking curse to not be able to enjoy Yoshi's island

Just easy bait. It's been like this since a bit before the rule change and then full force after.

Game genie code to mute Baby Mario crying made it playable

Mario 64 came out 1 year later.

It's same as first Wario Land had "Super Mario Land 3" written in small font. It's more like a standalone game with loose connection to previous one, so people wouldn't be afraid to try it.

Actual quote or just your opinion?

Stars I can accept, they're basically your health system.
Red coins being hidden among regular coins, the latter serving just to earn 1ups, is pretty crappy.
I just don't find 100 score runs of Yoshi's Island levels enjoyable, finding 5 flowers should be enough, but 20 coins some of which might be permanently missable if you move ahead too far, miss a trick, etc, is just tedium.

Play Super Mario Land 2 OP. It's the SMW successor we never got on SNES

It never was. The retard doubleniggers who market games in North America added that stupid subtitle, it was never meant to be anything but Yoshi's Island

I'm pretty sure the "super mario world 2" subtitle was added outside of japan and not even on the original japanese version

It's harder than World but if you are going for 100% then it's legitimately one of the hardest Mario games

It's easy if you just use items right before the exit to max out your stars.

I strongly disliked the removal of the explorable overworld map, considering what other technological advancements SMW2 had over 1, it could have been something truly great if they'd included it.

The game was definitely soulful, but it did always feel "off" to me as a Mario title. The art style and motion/interactions were so different from the 1-2-3-World formula established to date, it really had that "spinoff" feeling to it.

Absolute kino final boss fight, though. Beats Bowser's stupid hover copter and mechakoopas.

It's called Super Mario: Yoshi Island in Japan. According to Miyamoto and Tezuka the first Yoshi's Island game is mainline

Oh I will add that I did like the return of the "inventory" from 3. That would have been fun in World. I like the addition of special "fun" items the player can use on-demand like that. I think World's biggest(only) flaw was its lack of powerup variety. The addition of Yoshi kind of left Mario's powerups lacking, so the game was like 80% cape, 20% fire flower. Regular mushrooms were just trash and rarely was the player ever in need of them. Having more options to choose how you want to proceed would have been nice (though granted Yoshi alone did already add an extra dimension to the process), much better than the "in-place powerups" (SMW's "balloon" powerup, YI's various Yoshi vehicle transformation minigames.
