Pic related. The Marl Kingdom chronicles is finally getting a release, 20+ years too late.
Does anyone even care at this point?

I felt the same way with Mother 3. I was hyped for YEARS for the release. Then when it was finally released, it was kinda like... eh... I've moved on.

Any other examples of TL;DC?

Yeah, if people wanted to play games they already did by learning Japanese or playing fan translations.

Here's another. Supposedly only localized after they realized Undertale made it popular because the creator said it inspired him and there was money to be made.

Oh cool, one of the translation never :(( games that I played for 5 minutes in Japanese before dropping because it sucked is going to stop having threads. The first one was already translated twenty years ago to middling reviews.

This is a funny one. The guy responsible for the translation was a semi respected reviewer who started posting this shit game in his list of all time greatest games to pump up his personal profits.

This is basically every port/remake/reboot at this point for me OP, even including the mini consoles. Pretty much I enjoy most of my gaming on a shoestring budget, these remakes and compilations are great for collectors and people who still actively play on modern consoles or PC. But for me I'd rather just be boring and emulate the originals. There's plenty I haven't played in a while and tons I've never played at all, anyway.

I saw the PS5 boxart for this game and it made me chuckle a bit. Like really? Lol

The "reviewer" in question is nothing but an insufferable twat and a failed writer who took his frustrations out on his inability to be a respected writer by making a mediocre translation of a mediocre game.

>Supposedly only localized after they realized Undertale made it popular
There were other factors at work here:
>Original developer died during Y2K, everybody dispersed into other companies
>Original publisher crapped itself a few years later and got bought out by some anime corporation that adapts a bunch of isekai series AND THEN forcibly merged with another company internally that makes pop culture magazines
>IP rights were all over the place
>Fan translation was announced but never went anywhere for almost a decade
Plus, as any /vr/ poster would know, love-de-lic devs aren't exactly known for big hits, literally all of their gamesoutside of what they make on Nintendo's bankroll have gotten treated like shovelware and only blow up in popularity well after the fact. That track record combined with the above being a reoccurring sequence of events for love-de-lic is one hell of a dissuasion for them to try and revisit their past games.

Did you miss the point where he said he was hyped for YEARS.
Some people wait on games sometimes watching development unfold over years at a time, and when the game finally drops sometimes things have changed significantly in development and the game is no longer what was originally promised or showcased.
There's a bunch of reasons why someone might lose interest in a game over a long period of time, people change with the seasons, people move in and out of gaming when life takes over. Doesn't make him a hype beast, especially for a game like Rhapsody lmao.

This happened to me with Star Ocean Blue Sphere. I had played Star Ocean 2 and loved it so when I heard a Game Boy Color sequel was coming out I was pretty hyped. When it never got localized I moved on and by the time the fan translation came out I never bothered to play through it. I probably will get around to it one of these days but the ship has sailed as far as the intense joy of LOVING a game is concerned. It's hard to find games that reproduce the same feeling in your 30s that you had in your teens.

The NIS Classics port uses the original translation, with English or Japanese voice options. It doesn't contain any of the bonus content from the DS version, though (it's the ONLY NIS Switch port that doesn't. Even La Puccelle, which is packaged with it, has the bonus content from the PSP version that never came to the west). I assume the DS having a different combat system is what made them go "fuck it" and stick to the PSX version.

I don't think it's greedy, there's just something funny to me about buying a PS5 to play Genesis games. If anything it has more to do with the PS5 having no games lol

I mean, these collections are great for someone who wants to own them physically but doesn't have original hardware, especially "zoomers"/kids who grew up after that time period. Honestly if I wasn't such a cheapo I would buy a Genesis Mini or something, but for the price it's still just easier for me to emulate, for now. Originally I was going to post about how I also skipped Streets of Rage 4, the N. Sane Trilogy, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2. These are games I waited ages for as well like OP mentioned but by the time they came out I was already done with modern gaming. Still cool to see them return, though

One of their biggest shames. Advertise a version with bonus content, including said bonus content in prerelease marketing, then players find out it's disabled in the final game and only the base game is translated.
Dataminers found some remnants for the rest but it's glitchy, very incomplete, and badly translated.

Origins never got a single patch. Apparently Plus fixes several glitches and all the DLC shit's included this time. No idea if they'll be more new glitches with this rerelease that were overlooked or if they'll remove DRM they won't, let's be real.

Don't give Sega your money with this one. It's easier to just get the roms and patch them yourself.

It wasn't just begged for, it was outright promised before release. One of the main selling points of Origins was "new playable characters", only for Sega to retract that statement at the last minute.

True, but that's not a fuckin' excuse or, with this instance, a surefire indicator that Sega WILL remove it. The writing's on the wall with the fact it's even included in the first place, when they removed it in Mania with enough bitching, but that was when Sega was trying to gain the fans' trust back.

I promise you no tourists were getting hyped over a Rhapsody II localization in 2000, only genuine fans would have been interested and now they have all grown up and don't have time to obsess over a 20 year old game. This isn't a pair of Nike sneakers, it's a game 99% of people wouldn't care about.
