is it better for me to buy retro consoles in person at shops or online?

> i wanna buy a gamecube but there are no retro shops in my area
> ordering online is probably easier but also easier to be scammed
> i would have to drive 4+ hours to the next city to buy one in person

am i just being dumb or should i just buy it on ebay/amazon :p

No shit you should be buying online. It's going to be expensive no matter what, at least you save on time.

Yes OP, you should buy your retro video games on Amazon. That's where everyone here buys them.

Retro shops are mostly handled by scalpers. You choose the worst places to buy your consoles on. Here's a list of my main channels.
>Japan
Cheapest if you don't mind waiting times. Home consoles are mostly shiny locked, but many handleds are not. Also be sure to grab only platforms, puzzle or fighting games if you don't speak Moonrunes.
>Garage sales
2nd best one, you can snatch pretty good deals. Highly reliant on how many retro coomlectors are your zone.
>Facebook marketplace
Same as garage sales
>Craiglist or similar
Same as garage sales
>Thrift shops
Same as garage sales
>eBay auctions
One of the best, but big chances are you may get ninja'd by another coomlector/retro shop cuck

I'd just go with eBay, they have pretty good buyer protection as long as you make sure the item is marked "working" and not "untested" or "as is". I've rarely had issues with things not working and never had issues getting a refund if it wasn't as described.

I literally just sold my GameCube for $40 on eBay. Lots of vendors are listing them for similar prices.

The controller is worth more than the console.
Nobody should buy a GameCube, just buy a Wii.
I bought some consoles from a local game store, but only because they have a one year exchange policy. So far all of them I bought work flawlessly but I wouldn't have bought them if they didn't stand behind what they sell. Ebay is decent too, they always side with the buyer.

Sounds like a good day trip to me to get out of the basement. Maybe get some good food and a drink. Some sunlight. You get to come home and play the new-to-you gamecube.

ebay, mercari, offerup, or garage sales dont ever buy from a local shop unless they are reasonably priced.

Why is it that 99% of /vr/ live in the fucking sticks and need to travel 5+ hours to get to a video game store?
Maybe you should try collecting hay bales instead.

Naw. You don't want to travel for that long to think "Wow, most of these are overpriced" or "There is absolutely nothing I'm interested in here" and come back with nothing. I usually have to go to many stores for PS1 games around 10 bucks. Some over value PS1 games so I just pass on everything while others might over value N64 games and have the lowest priced one at 20 bucks for a sports game.

Do you live on the prairie or some shit? Just buy online from reputable vendors. Yes it will cost you more, but its better than getting chink crap.

I think it's just that those of us that live in the city don't need to ask. We've already been to the store and know what the prices are like.

It's always better to buy in person. I don't trust any of you fucks on ebay to not sell me a damaged or repro unit. I know I'll get my money back, but I really don't wanna deal with that shit. If you don't have a choice, then you get to eat crow. Best bet is to find a store, in my case a flea market, and use those never before used social skills to become friends with the proprietor. I did, and I get under the table deals. I regularly get cib stuff at half price.
