Is the GDemu that good?

Been playing burned games for a while now and I'm worried about the laser bros

>> No.9861532

Just keep playing your burned games until the laser stops working, then go the GDemu route. And yes, it plays games perfectly, without any of that loud reading of the disc.

it's good but i paid 40 bucks for mine 3 years ago. 130+ for it is not worth it unless you have cozy disposable income

Your Dreamcast laser isn't some precious artifact anon, just play your games and enjoy them. You can get replacement lasers off Aliexpress for like $10,

>> No.9861543

>>9861536
Probably depends on how much you plan to use it. 130 doesn't seem much to me though.

I was just gonna pick up a clone one from Aliexpress

Would drop like 80 max on it

That's not the point, the point is it should cost 40 and people who resell for profit should suffer.

God I want this GDemu shit so bad for my Dreamcast, but my model isn't supported. Mine is the 5 volt model and it would fry the GDemu. So I would need to sell my DC, buy another DC, and the GDEMU. bleh

>> No.9861565

>>9861550
Then make it and sell it for 40. Sounds like there's a pretty big market opportunity for you.

My laser went out awhile ago, no thanks to CD-R's. So I just use a ODE now.

i have like 6 dreamcasts and they all happen to be VA1. people who have VA0 or VA2 are pure unlucky.

it'll still work. people use them in va0 models and there have been no reported issues

are you mad people constantly would post about how the higher voltage would make the gdemu stop working after a short period

>>9861595
you technically can use it in a va0 but you need to do a resistor modification or else it will most definitely die after enough use

maybe, but it hasn't happened to anyone yet

If you have money to burn MODE works on VA0 dreamcast

what do about 12v rail in psu when installing gdemu? I've seen ppl do one of three:1.remove rail, 2. add resistor to rail or gdemu, 3. dont bother. mines arriving soon so I was wondering if any of youhad advice

>> No.9863026

I installed GDemu in mine a few days ago.

Worth every penny. Fucking love it.

It's worth it just for Shenmue Undub alone.

>>9862568
In my experience the heating up isn't as bad as people say, but then again, I don't play it for more than a couple hours at a time. Probably better to do the resistor mod so you don't worry about it though, because you do feel it warming up

>> No.9864867

Isn't worrying about your laser a bit oxymoronic if you're not going to use it by virtue of installing an ODE?

I bought a cheapo Chinese clone years ago. I think it was about $35. Only two issues I've ever had on it are with the Skies of Arcadia FMV intro freezing if you let it play to the end, and Code Veronica's tiger eye puzzle being bugged. The Skies of Arcadia issue is totally avoidable if you just skip the intro before it actually finishes, and the Code Veronica issue is fixable with cheats.

Pretty cool little device, would recommend it if you can get one at a good price.

That puzzle is fucking retarded, are you sure it's bugged or just acting as intended?

Those are both firmware bugs on pre 5.20 GDEMU

>> No.9864936

Wait, nvm
I’m an idiot, I thought you were saying you had a Chinese clone of a Dreamcast lol

>> No.9865832

>>9864926
It was bugged, every time you’d take the gem it would duplicate in your inventory and not remove from the statue. It made the game unbeatable without using a hex editor on your save. The bug was eventually fixed, but since clones aren’t updatable, you’re screwed if you have an older one.
GDEMU sucks in general, and so does the dev. Terra onion has some shitty practices too, but at least the MODE is a quality product. If it’s reaaaally important to you, consider springing for that since it doesn’t have voltage issues either. It’s for sure expensive though.

That doesn't sound fun.
