I love the first Tekken game. The PS1 Tekken games are probably the peak for me, but really I like all of the Tekken games. It's no surprise why--when people return to a PS1 Tekken--they go to Tekken 3. It's got tons of characters, it looks great, it has tons of fun modes, it's pretty fast. but I grew up on Tekken 1. I think it's goated.

It’s the worst Tekken game, but I think you’ll find it worth playing if you like any of the other Tekken games. Tekken 2 really is just a straight-up improvement on the first game and still a personal favorite of mine. I’d much rather play the first Virtua Fighter than the first Tekken; I genuinely think it’s the better game.
I’d say that Tekken Tag Tournament is the best Tekken game I can talk about on this board, but I honestly think every game in the series so far has been good. I’m real excited for Tekken 8.

This was popular 3D graphic design in 1994. Before people thought realistic characters where feasible, everyone used a weird cartoon style for characters and this weird mansion/resort style where everything is textured as a pristine marble slab. There are exceptions, but they're usually horror or fantasy games. Windows 3.1 encyclopedia software for example was full of this shit. I'd say it died as a purposeful style people used by around 1996. Windows 95 still shipped with marble countertop looking backgrounds.

Tekken was made by former AM2 employees who moved over to Namco. The original Virtua Fighter looked amazing for its time, used the Sega Model 1 arcade board. It still has a lot of fans. Virtua Fighter 2's big upgrade was running at 60fps, while VF1 only ran at 30fps. Though Tekken uses an arcade board based on the PS1 hardware, and had 60fps and textured maps before the release of Virtua Fighter 2.
