What are the best consoles to emulate if you haven't played many non-PC games? Specifically adventure, RPGs, action-adventure, puzzles, and the like.

>> No.9856553

standard starting point for 2D is SNES, for 3D it's N64 and PSX (though N64 had more progressive / influential games that are still hailed as classics). go through the classics on those. also many start by emulating Pokemon games.
then for 2D it's Genesis, NES, PSX and GBA, for 3D it's 6th gen.

SNES and Genesis are good for beginners, or I guess GameCube and PS2 if you are younger and want something more recent. Eventually you'll either want to get into PS1 and the other SEGA consoles or just end up sticking with Nintendo since they are the most basic. What are some games that you're playing right now?

Fellowship of the Ring GBA, Lethal Alliance DS, FF6 GBA as far as "retro" goes.

For GBA, I recommend:

Golden Sun
Lunar Legend
Shining Soul
Sword of Mana
Zelda: The Minish Cap
Zelda: A Link to the Past + Four Swords

GBC also has three great Zelda games, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, and Link's Awakening DX. You might also enjoy Beyond Oasis on Genesis and Secret of Mana on SNES. If you like FFVI, you might like FFVII on PS1 as well.

The Game Boy line are also excellent systems to start with. Very easy to emulate, and best of all there are plenty of handhelds that can accurately emulate them nowadays.

1) Pick a game you always wanted to play that wasnt available to you when you were younger
2) Legally acquire a copy of the game (lol)
3) Play it

Forgot to add, Saturn also has Shining Wisom, another top down action adventure game.

Pretty much you can't go wrong with any retro console or handheld

Finally, games that are loosely related to the ones OP mentioned:

>Super Star Wars Trilogy (SNES)
>Star Wars: Episode I Racer (N64, PS1, Dreamcast)
>Chocobo's Dungeon 2 (PS1)
>Chocobo Racing (PS1)
>Ehrgeiz (PS1)
>Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1)
>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA)

Depending on how you like your action adventure games, you might also enjoy a top down shooter like Pocky and Rocky or Twinkle Tale, or beat 'em ups like Dungeons and Dragons: Tower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara.

GB / GBC, NES, SMS / GG, GBA, SNES, MD / Genesis and PS1 emulation is very straightforward.

Here are some Mega Drive (+ add-on) games.

I have to wonder what happened to OP now. He hasn't mentioned any particular game or console that catches his eye yet
