Do you cheat, /vr/?

>> No.983768

To unlock beta content and play around after I've beaten the game? Sure.

>> No.983769

>>983760
I like to find crazy cheats that completely shatter the game wide open.

>> No.983780

This reminds me...My dad somehow accessed cheat menu at MJ Moonwalker on Sega long before we knew about internet...What the fuck?

>> No.983798

Sometimes. But nothing crazy like "everyone lv99, max stats and max items".
Like >>983768 said, I mostly use codes to enable content that was later removed from the final game, or play with temporary characters that leave your party too soon. Stuff like that.

yes, if only to not waste time on grinding. instead of buying that weapon for 1000g and gaining 2 levels in the process of collecting the money for it, i'd rather just edit in 1000g for myself and continue on my way.

>> No.983870

I always have. I wish I had never discovered ch33tz. Then I'd still be able to play JRPGs.

Just in games that I've already finished hundred times and think there's nothing more to do or to see like SOTN or Gran Turismo 2.

>> No.983895

What's your completion percentage in SotN? Mine's 290.0 without resetting the map.

Are you quite sure there's nothing left to do?

If you're talking about the normal gameplay, I'm sure. I've already saw all endings, don't mind so much with 200+% map coverage.

always. games have all sorts leftover/hidden content not normally accessible. cheating devices are also great for when you lose saved data.

Thanks! I'm trying to keep /vr/ just 4chan enough without taking it off topic or dropping the maturity level.

Frankly I'm surprised my cheating joke got someone mad enough to post something a janitor would feel the need to delete.

Surprised and pleased. Sad I didn't have the thread caching though. Some other anti-environmentalists and I got some comments swept in a Civilization: Alpha Centauri thread the other day so I learned to be sure to keep shit /vr/ relevent.

you are supposed to be grinding as little as possible in jrpgs

Most (good) jrpgs can be beaten with very little to no grinding if you use all of your spells, party members, items, and character building in a strategic way.

200.6% is the organic max. 290.0% is the highest I've seen without resetting the map and letting you get more for tiles you've already been to.

Which is to say, I've explored 896/1003 of a castle outside of the map. My end goal is 300.9%.

>> No.988969

I bought a Gameshark for Saturn. Only reason was because it could be used as a memory card as well and memory cards for Saturn can't be found anywhere.

Stuff like making the text pop up instantly I don't consider cheating. I think it's an option that devs should have given players.

>> No.989082

>>988987
Just playing devil's advocate, but that's not "the way the developers wanted you to play it". Sure that's a case where hardly anyone will call it cheating. But is using save-states to continue a game later, which doesn't have passwords or savepoints cheating? Is coin spamming on MAME cheating? Isn't pumping quarters like a crazy fuck what the developers wanted in the first place?

>> No.989779

Back in the day, I thought it was something magical, the things it promised it could do.
I never had one, but nowadays, after researching what it actually does and the stuff it can unlock, I want one.
Is there any way to fuck up a game with it? I mean, corrupt the files and stuff? That was the only thing that keeps worrying me, lel

989790

I used to use game shark and other stuff to come up with my own cheats and mess around with games back in the day. Stuff like playing as Reptile in MK1 with switching movesets with select, unlocking removed cheats from Goldeneye, playing as removed characters in wrestling games, using one character in Chrono Trigger, etc etc etc. Those days were fun, I still fool around with cheats every now and then.

I bought a GBC gameshark just to unlock Mew in Blue version when I was a kid. Ended up making a bunch of fake mews and passing them out at school for $2 each. The gameshark payed for itself and a copy of Gold and Silver when they came out.

I really can't imagine that. Pokemon was crazy back then, everyone in school had the game, and I lived in a really rural area in the middle of nowhere.

>> No.992304

>>989082
>is using save-states to continue a game later, which doesn't have passwords or savepoints cheating?

It depends on the game, but usually, no. If you quit immediately after saving the state, and delete it after you load it, you gain no advantage and it's basically the same as leaving the game on overnight.

That's totally disgusting. I know it isn't just your parents that did this, mine also did to some degree. Taking a single cent from your kids is beyond fucked up. If your kids earn money, any money, they should learn that it's theirs. Taking it, especially 700 fucking bucks is teaching that even if you work for your money, you should just deal with assholes that want to steal it.
