What's the best PC port & where to find? No idea where to start & everyone says something different.

>> No.9826637

It's a 5/10 game at best. Do yourself a favor and play something better.

>> No.9826654

get sm64plus, its the easiest way to use the pc port.

>> No.9826709

Get sm64pcBuilder2 and compile your own port with whatever features you want, that's what I did.

Download retroarch, run installer, download n64 core(there's guides on line), download super 64 mario rom, run it in retroarch.

Agree ngl, think it's highly over favored, many other 3D platformers at the time were better.

There's no "best" PC port, but the one I used was SM64Plus and it's perfectly fine as far as I can tell. All sorts of neat graphical mods and various game features you can pick and choose.

The original one is the best: https://github.com/sm64-port/sm64-port
If you're going to use OpenGL, make sure to fix this file: https://github.com/sm64-port/sm64-port/pull/4/files

Mupen with a widescreen patch or an actual console.
All the PC ports are hot garbage and are made by discord addicted children.

Its legitimately shitty tho & buggy. Emulators themselves need tweaking often per game too, esp w later consoles.

I DL all my emulators separately then use Playnite as clean launcher for everything. That's the true GOAT way.

>> No.9829864

Anything but Render96, I personally use SM64EX.

>> No.9830385

>>9829930
I agree, but its cleaner overall & way more functional. Sadly there really are no good all in one solutions for emulation. The front ends often try to use their own settings that fuck w the actual emulators.

Retroarch UI was so shockingly dogshit I thought I had installed the wrong thing. I can't believe people tolerate fucking TABLET UI to play retro games. Disgusting.

Holy fuck I cannot get SM64 to build for months now
I deleted one of my installations of it because I wanted to recompile it with different settings, and since then MSYS2 just started fucking erroring every time I've ever wanted to build it. SM64PCBuilder2 and SM64Plus both don't fucking work and I have no idea why or how to fix it.

>> No.9830474

>>9828000
You're quite right, but the first port I posted here >>9827714 plays quite faithful to what I remember on a N64, expect it's widescreen. I even used my N64 controller to play it.
You need to compile it yourself, though.

He's prob talking about Retrobat, Emulation Station, etc that all use RA for their actual backend emulation. I think all of them I'm fact are based on Emulation Station, even Batocera, which is a pain in the ass to tweak certain things. I remember trying to get Retrobat to remember my Yuzu settings & every time I'd open it, it'd treat Yuzu as a new install & their pushy config files would overwrite anything I'd done. Fucking shitty. Wish there was a better solution but I don't think there is, so I just manually do everything via whatever emulator the games use/Playnite launcher.

>>9830478
>>9830520
Are you putting the ROM in the same folder that MSYS2 creates? I think that might matter. Mine built in 10 mins using my shitty Thinkpad.

The good thing is once you've built it, its transferable. Just move the entire folder to another PC and launch the app settings exe, and make a shortcut to the actual game exe when you're done.

>> No.9831394

>>9831390
I got it to work
sm64plus is pretty neat over the standard PC port, because all the settings are in the launcher so you don't ever have to recompile it if you want something different.

>> No.9831437

>>9831394
Yeah its cool. Is there any way to make the HUD elements higher res? Its off putting when everything else is in 4K.

Never mind. I ended up using the builder to do a Render96 build following this https://youtu.be/sZZPxLEFlMo It looks & plays amazing.

I used Directx 12 tho. The OpenGL build made my modest graphics card scream in 4K/60fps.

I don't mind higher FPS if it doesn't introduce bugs in the game, but it's the sarcasm in your post that gave origin to that absolute garbage of OOT port.
